Weekly Update 29.9.23

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog

Hi everyone,

A fantastic topic focused week. We were looking forward to the local history trip to Armley Mills and our visit certainly did not disappoint. Everyone enjoyed being transported to the Victorian era in the roles of a Victorian school child and mill worker. The children learned what it was like to learn in a Victorian classroom and the extremely difficult life of a child working in the mills. We will be using this experience to inspire our writing next week. I'll let some photos of the day tell the whole story...

As part of our forthcoming design and technology on structures, we are collecting cardboard tubes (kitchen roll or wrapping paper). If you have any at home please could children bring them into school over the next few weeks. Thank you

Enjoy the weekend

Hi!

Another great week in Maple Tree Class.

The children have been working on their reading comprehension skills this week whilst reading a range of texts linked to our topic on the Victorians. They have made great progress in their inference, retrieval and vocabulary skills.

On Tuesday 26th September, we are looking forward to our trip to Armley Mills. All children will come to school at the normal time and will return to school for the end of the school day.

Armley Mills encourage all children to come dressed as Victorians. The visit is more authentic if the children are in costume. Pinafores and waistcoats may be provided by Armley Mills; however, children are requested to come to school wearing the following on the day of the visit:

Boys:  dark trousers (no jeans), white shirt with a collar and a waistcoat if they have one.

Girls:  dark skirt, white top, long socks or dark tights and a pinafore if they have one.  Hair tied back with ribbons or in plaits/ringlets.

In keeping with the day, dark school shoes are also recommended.

The trip provides a super support into the curriculum and a deeper understanding of the Victorian era.

Enjoy the weekend!

Hello,

Maple Tree Class have continued to impress me this week with their positive and mature attitude to school.

We have been busy completing a range of assessments in reading, maths and grammar. The children have maintained great focus throughout. The class have also been preparing for a range of writing activities by increasing their knowledge about the Victorian era (they have some research about the Victorians for homework this week) and this will continue next week ahead of our class trip to Armley Mills on Tuesday 26th September.

In PE, hockey skills are being practised and the children will be playing a hockey game in the next few weeks.

We were all glad that the weather was a little cooler this week. Please can children remember to bring a waterproof coat to school every day as we move into the changeable autumnal season.

Enjoy your weekend.
