Cherry Tree Class - Year 2
Welcome to Cherry Tree Class
Welcome to our class page. Cherry Tree are a class of hard working Year 2's who are taught by Mrs Moore with support from Miss Scott, Miss Sands and Miss Redmond.
As we are sure you can appreciate, the mornings are a very busy time and our main concern is to get the children into school safely and ready to start the day. If a message needs to be passed on to do with home-time arrangements or something that we need to know about for that day then please feel free to speak to the teacher at the door. If a longer or more confidential conversation is needed please use the class email or call the school office to arrange a phone call.
Our class email is cherry@ruffordparkprimary.org.uk
READING: Reading books need to be brought to school each day in book bags. They will be changed on a Tuesday. Children should , ideally, be reading at home to an adult daily. The minimum expectation is that children will read 3 times each week. Please remember to sign your child's reading record book so that we know they have read at home.
Children will also choose a library book to take home. This can be changed each week or they can keep each book for longer if they wish.
Please read the attached 'Reading in Key Stage One' document to find out more.
PE: We have PE on a Thursday and Friday. Children need to come to school on these days in their kit. They need to wear trainers. Jogging bottoms should be worn over their indoor kit, especially in the colder weather. A Rufford Park Hoodie or school jumper also needs to be worn (please refer to the School's uniform policy). Earrings should not be worn on these days. If for any reason earrings can not be taken out then they should be covered with tape (this needs to be brought to school or put on in the morning at home). Long hair should also be tied back.
HOMEWORK: Maths or English homework is given weekly. This homework will be sent home on a Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday. The spellings that we are working on will be sent home weekly for children to practise at home. Spellings will be sent home on a Friday. Children will be working in school on their weekly spellings. They will be tested in various ways including using words in a simple dictation and writing the words in a list from memory. Ultimately we are looking for the correct spelling of words in independent writing not just in a one off weekly test.
Spellings will be a mixture of patterns and common exception words. Click on the links to see the Year 1 and Year 2 Common Exception Words. These are words that the children should be able to read and spell the majority of by the end of Key Stage One.
WATER BOTTLES: Children need to bring a named and filled water bottle to school each day. This should only contain water and should have a sports top.
COATS: Children must have a coat in school each day. This must be waterproof!
UNIFORM: Please remember to label clothing (especially jumpers and PE hoodies). The children do not need indoor shoes but must wear black shoes except on PE days. Trainers should only be worn on PE days (please refer to the School's Uniform Policy).
