Hi,
A shorter week at school but busy as ever.
The children have been busy researching about the life of the very famous Victorian Thomas Barnardo and have started to write a biography about him. This is supporting both the literacy and history curriculum.
In maths, my group has been focusing on converting fractions in order to add and subtract mixed numbers. The children are working hard to do this by choosing the most efficient method for the particular fractions involved. We will continue this work at the beginning of next week before moving onto multiplying and dividing fractions.
The children have enjoyed both odd socks day this week in support of anti-bullying week and a non-uniform day in support of Children in Need.
Preparations for UKS2 Christmas performance has begun....
Have a lovely weekend.

Hello,
Maple Tree Class have had a great start to the half-term. The children have been busy reading some biographies as they will shortly be writing a biography of their own about a very important Victorian person. In maths, my group continue to work on their fractions knowledge by adding and subtracting fractions and converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and mixed numbers into improper fractions. A secure times tables knowledge is vital for this; continued practise of all the times tables and their associated division facts should continue throughout Year 6. Miss Bairstow's maths group have been working on identifying square and cube numbers.
As part of our MindMate PSHE curriculum we discussed how to recognise an unhealthy relationship, how this may affect individuals and who to talk to if needed. As always, the children were able to demonstrate a good understanding of the issues and how to deal with them.
A great start to the half-term!

Hi,
The half-term holidays have arrived and I hope you are all looking forward to some fun activities over the next week. Maple Tree Class have had a fantastic start to Year 6. The children have shown great maturity in their approach to their learning and all the team in Year 6 have been really impressed.
This week, the children completed their poetry writing. They have shown great imagination with their onamatopoeic sounds.
We were hoping to celebrate the end of our UKS2 hockey unit with an outside mini tournament on Thursday. Unfortunately, the weather conspired against us and we had to make some adjustments so Sam brilliantly led an inside tournament where the children competed for house points. Everyone had great fun. We are hoping to do another tournament next half-term.
Enjoy the holidays!
