Weekly Update 13.1.23

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

We have had a creative week in Pear Tree Class.

The children have learnt about Pablo Picasso in art and his use of colour to convey happy or sad feelings through his art. The children explored different colours before deciding if they portrayed happiness or sadness. After this, they sketched a portrait of a happy or sad person and coloured the portrait in using their chosen colour palette.

In music we created a piece of music to match an aquarium video.  The children used xylophones to represent the fish and triangles, shakers and rain sticks to represent the sound of the water.

In English the children have enjoyed reading 'Traction Man' by Mini Grey and have produced some very high quality pieces of writing, including descriptions of Traction Man and thought bubbles for various characters in the story.

In maths we are starting to learn about multiplication and division. The children have been practising how to make equal groups and how to add equal groups.

Have a lovely weekend and I will see you again on Monday,

Miss Atkinson

Weekly Update 6.1.2022

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

We have had a busy first week back at school and the children have quickly settled back into their routines.

In English the children started the week by writing their new year resolutions (a lot are related to learning how to do handstands and cartwheels!). The children also wrote descriptions about Elastigirl (from The Incredibles).

Next week we will be starting to read 'Traction Man' which is our core text this half term.

In maths the children started the week by comparing numbers using the vocabulary of bigger and smaller. We played dinosaur Top Trumps to consolidate our learning. We also spent time order numbers from smallest to biggest.

Just a reminder that our new PE days are Monday and Thursday so please make sure your child wears their PE kit on these days.

Have a lovely weekend and I will see you again on Monday.

Weekly Update 16.12.22

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

We have made it to the last day of a very successful and enjoyable term.

On Wednesday we had our Christmas Party. The children enjoyed decorating their own party crowns in the morning before playing party games, eating party food and meeting Father Christmas!

We have also spent time this week recapping the phonics sounds we have learnt since the start of Year One and learning the new 'ue' digraph. In maths we have started to learn how to read o'clock times. In English we have also been writing a diary of what our class elf has been doing each day. The children have enjoyed predicting what the elf will do on the following day and some of their predictions have come true!

After the Christmas holidays our PE days will be back to Monday and Thursday and our new topic will be 'Superheroes'. Keep an eye out for the new curriculum overview so you can see what we will be learning in each subject.

Thank you to anyone who gave a Christmas gift - it is never expected but is appreciated.

Have a lovely few weeks and Happy Christmas if you celebrate it.

See you again on Tuesday 3rd January 2023!

Miss Atkinson
