Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024
Weekly Update 31.3.23

Another term has come to an end and it seems to have gone by so quickly!
This week started with the children browsing the Scholastic book fair.
In science the children finished their sunflower dairies and took their sunflowers home. The children enjoyed measuring their sunflowers each week and recording their observations. We also finished our cress experiment and found that the cress which grew the best was the one that had access to both sunlight and water.
In maths we continued learning about money by identifying different coins. We have also recapped our previous learning about place value of two digit numbers and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
In computing we have discussed how to stay safe online. We have taught the children about how to stay SMART online by not giving out personal information online and telling a grown up if they see anything that upsets them online.
The week ended on a high with the children completing the 'Egg Scramble' in the hall and each child finding their own Easter egg. The children also achieved their class target of moving quietly around the classroom so we had a dance party with the bubble machine to celebrate.
After the holidays our PE days will be Monday and Wednesday (instead of Tuesday). Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days.
Happy Easter and I will see you again on Monday 17th April.

Another week has flown by!
In maths we have been learning about money. The children have started to name and identify different coins. All the children have enjoyed playing shops by pretending to be either the customer or the shopkeeper and making sure they had paid with the correct coins.
In PSHE we have started talking about where money comes from and all the different things that we spend money on. Some of the children were quite shocked to learn that we have to pay for nearly everything!!
In English we have compared different versions of 'Little Red Riding Hood'. We have also written speech and thought bubbles for different characters from the story.
In PE we have continued learning how to catch and throw, as well as how to skip in different styles. I was very impressed with the children's perseverance when learning some quite tricky skips!
Enjoy the weekend and see you again on Monday for the final week before the Easter holidays!

We have come to the end of another busy week!
In science the children have continued to watch their sunflowers grow and record their observations in their sunflower diaries. We have also started to discuss the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees. Next week we will be walking around the school grounds and seeing which trees we can find.
In maths we have spent time ordering numbers to 50 and learning how to find a quarter of quantities.
In English we started the week by looking at examples of diaries and discussing how they are written in first person and in past tense. The children then planned and wrote their own diary from the point of view of one of the Three Little Pigs.
In history, as part of our Kings and Queens topic, the children have been learning about Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria. Next week we will be learning about Henry VIII.
Thank you for your generosity in donating yellow/orange items for the Joseph and his Technicolour Dream Coat inspired raffle. Pear Tree will be watching the Joseph dress rehearsal on Monday morning.
Enjoy the warmer weather and see you again on Monday,
Miss Atkinson
