What a busy end to the half-term!
In English we have been using the information we have learnt about The Great Fire of London to make our own Information Posters about this event. I have been very impressed with all the facts that the children can remember about The Great Fire!
This week we also conducted an experiment in science, all about the effects of fizzy drinks on our teeth and the importance of brushing our teeth. We left a hard-boiled egg (pretending to be a tooth!) in a cup of fizzy drink for a day and compared this to an egg left in water for the same amount of time. The children's predictions that the egg in the fizzy drink would change colour and turn brown came true. We then had a go at scrubbing the egg clean with a toothbrush and toothpaste to make the egg clean again. The children especially enjoyed learning about this and they each had a go at scrubbing the egg with the toothbrush!
Yesterday we sent out a box of raisins with every child, for the Raisin Funds challenge, organised by the PTA. It would be very much appreciated if this box could be returned on Monday 1st November, filled with any loose change from home.
Enjoy the holidays and please keep reading with your child over the next week!

Another week in Pear Class draws to a close and what a fun week it has been!
In English, the children have continued writing diary entries. This week they pretended to be Samuel Pepys and enjoyed writing about burying their cheese and wine.
In maths the children have started to learn about addition and how to solve addition sums using the part-whole model. I have been very impressed with how quickly and confidently they have understood this concept!
We have also learnt about what happened after The Great Fire of London and how London was re-built to make it safer. The children especially enjoyed re-designing their own London by drawing and colouring in their own shop fronts.
It was good to get a chance to talk to most of you at Parent's Evening. Thank you for making the time to meet with me. If you need to contact me at any point then please email pear@ruffordparkprimary.org.uk.
Enjoy the weekend and see you all again on Monday!

What an exciting end to the week we have had in Pear Class!
Yesterday, the children took part in a Great Fire of London workshop. They spent all morning creating and painting their own London houses. In the afternoon the houses were set up to represent London, before they were set on fire!
The children hugely enjoyed the day and the experience really brought their learning to life. All the children had a turn at wafting the flames or trying to put the fire out with water (from a safe distance!) Take a look at the photos below.
Next week we are going to carry on learning about The Great Fire of London and the children are going to have a go at writing a diary from Samuel Pepys's point of view.
Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to meeting with you next week during parent's evening on Tuesday 12th October and Wednesday 13th October.
