Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

Weekly Update 25.3.2022

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

We have had another fun week in Pear Class.

This week we have started reading our new class book of 'Stick Man'. The children had a go at writing questions that they would like to ask Stick Man and all remembered to put a question mark at the end of their questions.

In science we have continued learning about plants. We observed how our daffodil bulbs have changed since they were first planted a few weeks ago. They are slowly growing! The children have also learnt to name and identify a variety of plants including daisies, dandelions, buttercups, roses and pansies.

In maths we have recapped how to solve addition and subtraction problems, as well as doing some work on how to solve missing number problems.

Next week we are going to be walking to Yeadon Tarn on Wednesday 30th March, so please make sure your permission slips are back in school by the start of next week.

Enjoy the lovely sunny weather this weekend and I will see you on Monday.

Weekly Update 18.3.2022

Another busy week has come to an end in Pear Class.

In science, the children have continued learning about plants. This week we have learnt about what a plant needs to grow healthily. In addition to the children growing their own bulb we are conducting an experiment to see what happens to a bulb that does not have access to sunlight and a bulb that does not have access to water.  All the children made a prediction about what will happen to the bulbs, so we shall wait to see if they come true.

In maths we have continued learning about fractions, focusing on finding a quarter of an amount. The children have preserved with this difficult concept and I have been very impressed with their maths skills.

We have also continued learning about Yeadon through our topic work. This week we have spoken about the different human and physical features of Yeadon and the surrounding areas.

This has been our final week writing about 'The Smartest Giant in Town'. Next week we will be starting to read 'Stickman' also by Julia Donaldson.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunny weather,

Miss Atkinson

Weekly Update 11.3.2022

We have had another exciting week in Pear class.

In science we are learning about different plants, seeds and bulbs. At the start of the week, the children all planted their own daffodil bulb which we are going to observe grow over the rest of the half-term. Hopefully - if they're fully grown by the Easter holidays - the children will be able to take their own plant home with them.

On Tuesday afternoon a storyteller came to visit and retold the story of 'Cinderella'. There was lots of dressing up and dancing to our own party. All the children absolutely loved this and they could recall a lot of the story, that we learnt about last half-term.

In maths we have been learning about how to find a quarter and a half of different shapes as well as how to find a quarter and half of a number.

Just a reminder that all children in school received a World Book Day token last week which can be redeemed in certain shops for a FREE book until Sunday 27th March. There are 12 completely free books to choose from this year or alternatively the children can redeem their voucher against a full price book to knock £1 off the cost.

Don't forget that Monday 14th March is a training day, so I will see you again on Tuesday 15th!
