Weekly Update 7.6.24

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

The first week of the final half term has gone by so quickly!

In English the children have worked to write their own African inspired diamante poem. As always, the quality of the writing was high and the children enjoyed learning about a different form of poetry.

In maths we have recapped place value of two digit numbers. The children have worked with practical resources to partition numbers into tens and ones. We have also spent time recapping the number bonds to 10 and within 10.

In PSHE the children learnt the skills of working in a small group and we spoke about the importance of listening, talking to each other, being kind to each other and remaining calm when finding something challenging.

We also learnt about what a day at school is like for a child living in urban Kenya and compared this to a day in the life of a child at Rufford Park as part of our geography topic about Africa.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and let's hope for warmer weather next week!

Miss Atkinson

Weekly Update 24.5.24

The final week of the first summer half term has come to an end.

This week the children wrote their own version of 'Lila and the Secret of the Rain' called 'Lila and the Secret of Sun'. All the children wrote independently and work so hard on their stories. I am very proud of every child's writing progress.

In maths we recapped the place value of two-digit numbers and explored the different ways that two-digit numbers can be represented.

In computing the children used the plan that they created last week to write a simple programme on Scratch Junior.

We finished the week with some art to raise awareness for marine conservation. The children each created their own sea creature ink print. Our art will be displayed, alongside artwork from other local schools, at an exhibition at Guiseley Theatre. Dates will follow shortly!

Enjoy next week and I will see you all again on Tuesday 4th June for the final half term of the academic year!

Weekly Update 17.5.24

This week in English the children wrote their own recount of 'Lila and the Secret of Rain'. Next week we will work to change the story and the children will write their own version of the story.

In maths we have recapped how to solve missing number addition and subtraction calculations. We used ten frames, part-whole models and number lines to solve calculations. We also discussed how we can use known addition and subtraction facts to help us solve missing number problems.

In art, the children learnt about sculptor Eva Rothschild and used spaghetti and marshmallows to create their own geometric sculpture. The children then named their sculpture and showed it to their friends.

In science the children have continued learning about the ways in which animals are classified and the children learnt about reptiles.

Enjoy the weekend and I will see you on Monday for the final week of the half term!
