Weekly Update 15.3.24

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

A very busy week has come to an end!

On Tuesday the children had a PSHE workshop about how to stay healthy and look after your body.

This week in maths we have introduced whole turns, half turns and quarter turns both clockwise and anticlockwise. The children have enjoyed lots of practical activities involving turning different shapes and objects.

We also read our new core text which is 'Stick Man' by Julia Donaldson. The children sequenced the story of 'Stick Man' and made their own stickman using sticks and googly eyes. Next week we will be pretending Stick Man is going around Yeadon and will be writing information posters about what he has found on his adventures.

Today the children completed a workshop with Lime Tree and Cherry Tree Class and met author Caryl Hart.

Enjoy the weekend and see you again on Monday!

Weekly Update 8.3.24

The highlight of this week was definitely World Book Day! The children enjoyed dressing up and sharing details of their inspirational person.

In maths we have continued learning about fractions and have progressed from identifying half of objects, shapes and quantities to a quarter of objects, shapes and quantities. We have also continued learning about the place value of two digit numbers and how to represent two digit numbers with tens and ones.

In English the children created their own character for the story of 'The Smartest Giant in Town' and wrote a recount from their characters point of view.

In computing the children continued learning how technology can be used to create music and enjoyed exploring Google Chrome Music Lab to create their own pieces of music.

Parents' Evening is on Monday 11th March and Wednesday 13th March. If you have any trouble booking an appointment please contact the office.

Enjoy the weekend and see you again on Monday!

Weekly Update 1.3.24

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

This week in maths the children have started learning about fractions and learnt how to find half of different objects, shapes and quantities. Next week we will progress to learning about quarters.

In science we have continued learning about plants. We set up an experiment to investigate what a plant needs to grow by putting different plants in different places around the classroom. The children each made a prediction for which plant they thought would grow the best. We will monitor the plants over the following weeks to see whether our predictions were correct.

In English we hunted around the classroom for phrases that linked to 'The Smartest Giant in Town' and the children wrote sentences using these phrases on their own mini whiteboards.

Don't forget World Book Day is on Thursday 7th March and dressing up as an inspirational person is optional.

Enjoy the weekend and see you again on Monday,

Miss Atkinson
