Weekly Update 26.1.24

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

A very quiet week in Pear Tree Class has come to an end.

In maths we have learnt how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. The children did really well with spotting patterns in the final digits of numbers to work out whether they would say a given number when counting in multiples of 2s, 5s and 10s.

In English we have focused on sentence level writing by writing captions to match pictures from Cinderella. On Wednesday all the children completed their writing independently and showed massive progress from where they started at the beginning of the year.

In DT we continued learning about mechanisms and moving pictures. Each child made their own lever to make a scene from Jack and the Beanstalk move.

In geography we continued learning about our local area by discussing the physical and human features of Yeadon.

Have a lovely weekend and hope that everyone affected has recovered from chicken pox!

We have learned so much this week!

In English the children wrote their own recount from the point of view of Cinderella.

In maths we have learnt how to make equal groups, count in 2s and how to count in 2s to solve problems.

In DT we have continued our unit about moving pictures. The children made their own slider mechanism to enhance the story of the Gingerbread Man.

In PE the children have continued learning the quite challenging skill of how to skip! I have been so impressed with their perseverance and determination.

Enjoy the weekend and let's hope for a warmer week on Monday.

Weekly Update 12.1.24

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog

The first week of this term has gone by so quickly and we have already learnt so much!

Our new core text for this half term is 'Cinderella'. The children have written thought bubbles for different characters at different points in the story. We are still focusing on saying what we want to write before we start writing.

In maths we have continued learning about the numbers 10-20. The children began the week by making their own number lines to 20. We then compared numbers within 20, discussing which were smaller and greater than each other, before ordering three numbers within 20. We finished the week by learning how to solve addition sums by counting on using the number line.

In computing the children learnt which pieces of information technology can and cannot take photos. They then learnt how to take a good photo on the iPad by looking at what they want to photograph, holding the iPad steady and tapping to take a photo.

In DT the children evaluated different moving picture books and discussed what they liked about the moving pictures and what they would change to improve the moving pictures. I was very impressed with their suggestions to make different parts of the pictures move in different ways, to enhance the stories.

Later in the half term they are going to make their own moving picture using levers and sliders.

Just a reminder that our PE days are back to being on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days.

Enjoy the weekend and see you again on Monday.
