The first week of the half term has gone by so quickly.
We have introduced the book 'The Smartest Giant in Town' by Julia Donaldson, which is our core text for English. The children made predictions for what they think would happen in the story, sequenced the story and also wrote captions for key scenes from the story.
In maths, we have spent the week recapping addition and subtraction. All the children could remember how to add and subtract within 20 from when it was first taught in the autumn term so well done Pear Tree! We have also started to represent two digit numbers with tens and ones. The children worked hard on Friday morning to represent different numbers and they took photos of their work on the iPads.
In DT the children have planned their Cinderella moving picture and we will begin making these next week.
Also in PSHE we have learnt the difference between a secret and a surprise and spoken about who we can tell if we are told to keep a secret that does not make us feel good.
A reminder that World Book Day is on Thursday 7th March. Our whole school theme this year will be based around the Little People, BIG DREAMS series of books. We would like all children to decorate a thought bubble featuring a person who inspires them. This can be a person from the book series, or another person of your choosing! Dress up is completely optional and only for those who want to, but it would be great to see a range of inspirational people - from Elton John to Marie Curie!
Enjoy the weekend and I will see you again on Monday.

A slightly shorter half term has come to an end but we have certainly packed it full of learning!
This week in English the children writing their instructions for how to get Cinderella ready for the ball. All the children have made such good progress with their writing since the start of the year and they should be very proud of their work.
In maths, we have continued learning about multiplication and division. We learnt how to share equally between 2 and 5 groups using practical resources before moving onto sharing by drawing groups and counters.
In geography the children drew their own map of Yeadon using aerial photographs.
This week we have had Miss Hodges teaching in our class. Miss Hodges is a student teacher who is in her final year of teacher training. Miss Hodges will continue to teach some lessons over the following weeks at school.

A busy week of learning has come to an end.
In English, we have learnt what instructions are and the key features of a set of instructions. The children followed a set of instructions to make each their own friendship bracelet. Later in the week the children each ordered their own set of instructions about how to get Cinderella ready for the ball.
Following on from learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s last week, the children have learnt how to make arrays in maths and how to use arrays to solve repeated addition number sentences.
In geography the children worked in groups to create a map of the school and even created their own map key!
Next week is Online Safety Week. We will be doing additional lessons about online safety next week but it would also be beneficial if you could discuss online safety with your child/children next week.
