Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

Weekly Update 21.7.23

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

We have reached the end of the academic year!

Every single child in Pear Tree Class has been such a joy to teach. All the children have worked so so hard all year and have progressed so much in their learning.

Thank you for any end of year gifts; they are never expected and are always a lovely surprise.

All that is left to say is have a wonderful summer and I will see you again in September!

Summer Reading Challenge:

This year's Summer Reading Challenge theme is 'Ready, Set, Read!' and aims to keep children's minds and bodies active over the summer break. Children can read anything they like – stories, poetry, fact books, graphic novels or listen to audiobooks – it’s up to them!  The books (physical or digital) can be borrowed from the library, and we recommend reading at least six books over the summer, with a Ready, Set, Read! reward for each of the six books they read. Once they have read their sixth book, they complete the challenge and will be awarded a certificate and medal. And best of all, it’s completely FREE!

Saturday 22nd July is Sign-up Saturday in Leeds, which is a dedicated time in libraries for joining the Summer Reading Challenge. There'll be a real buzz in our buildings on this day, as well as a range of self-serve activities, including a hunt for the Ready, Set, Read! characters among our bookshelves.

Weekly Update 14.7.23

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

Another week has flown by.

The week started with Sports Day, where the children showcased their sporting abilities! There was some great team work and lots of celebrating each other's successes. It was also lovely to see so many parents/carers able to come and cheer on the children.

In computing this week, the children finished their unit of work on learning how to programme the BeeBots to follow a simple algorithm. The children each picked a start point and an end point on a map and thought of a route for their BeeBot to follow. The children demonstrated good problem solving and perseverance when the BeeBots did not always follow instructions the way that the children had intended!

In maths we have been learning about capacity and how to use the terms 'full', 'quarter full' and 'half full'. The children enjoyed playing with the measuring jugs in the water tray.

Enjoy the weekend!

Weekly Update 29.6.23

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

We had a good start to the week as our caterpillars had transformed into butterflies over the weekend. The children enjoyed setting them free on Monday afternoon.

The highlight of the week was definitely our trip to Filey on Wednesday. The children all listened so well and behaved impeccably throughout the day. We walked along the seafront, had a talk from the lifeguard and even had time for a paddle in the sea! On the way back all the children had an ice cream as well. Thank you to any parent helpers and thank you to the children for being such a joy to teach!

Enjoy the weekend and I might see some of you at Yeadon Carnival on Saturday,

Miss Atkinson
