Weekly Update 4.2.2022

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

Pear class have learnt so much this week!

In English we have been learning about what instructions are and what they look like. On Tuesday the children all had a go at following instructions to make their own paper plate fish and I was very impressed with how the fish turned out!

On Thursday the children had a go at writing their own lists, as a practise for writing their own instructions next week. All the children wrote completed independently and remembered to use their phonics to sound out their words. Please take a look at our amazing work! Next week the children are going to be writing their own instructions telling the Fairy Godmother how to get Cinderella ready for the ball.

In science, we learnt that the day length varies depending on the season and that the earth moves around the sun. The children then had a go at exploring how the sun can only shine on certain parts of the earth, using torches and globes.

We have also been learning about climate change and global warming. The children have been very engaged in this subject and know what they can do to help stop climate change.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you at Parent's Evening on Tuesday 8th February and Wednesday 9th February.

Weekly Update 28.1.2022

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

After a challenging few weeks of being in a class bubble it has felt very nice to have a 'normal' week in Pear class with all the children!

In English we have continued to learn about the story of 'Cinderella'. This week the children planned their own diary entry from the point of view of Cinderella and then wrote up their work in neat. I have been so impressed with how hard all the children tried with their writing and how much progress they have all made since the start of the year.

In maths, the children have been learning how to count forwards and backwards all the way up to 100, as well as learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In phonics we have continued learning our new phase 5 digraphs. We have enjoyed reading words containing the 'ea' digraph and comparing this to the 'ee' digraph we already know. All the children had a go at sorting words based on their spelling of the 'ee' sound.

In computing we have learnt about the benefits of pictograms as a way of showing information. As a class we wanted to find out how everyone got to school, so we made a class pictogram to display this information. The children were very engaged in this lesson and enjoyed using the pictogram to work out how most people in our class get to school. I have attached a photo of our work below for you to look at.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and will see you again on Monday,

Miss Atkinson

Weekly Update 7.1.2022

K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

Happy New Year! We have had a busy first week back in Pear class.

In maths, the children have started to learn about multiplication, in the form of making equal groups and adding groups together. Take a look at our photos below.

This half-term in English we are learning about traditional tales. We have started by reading the story of 'Cinderella' and the children have continued their work on adjectives by describing Cinderella. This week's homework is about describing the step sisters from the story, so all the children should be able to do this.

In science we are learning about seasonal changes, and the children enjoyed going on a wintery walk around the school grounds.

I hope you all have a good weekend and see you on Monday!
