As always, a very busy week in Cherry Tree Class!

This week we have been using the story 'Supertato' to inspire our writing. The children have been using some of the key story vocabulary in both oral and written sentences. We have also been writing descriptions of this superhero. Next week the children will be creating their own comic strip 'Supertato' adventure.

In maths we have continued our work on multiplication and division.

The children have continued to enjoy our portrait unit in art.  This week we have been looking at colour washes using water colours.

Next week, on Wednesday, we have our Superhero Day to bring our topic to a conclusion. It should be a really good day and I am looking forward to seeing which superheroes the children come dressed as.

Enjoy your weekend.

Well the highlight of this week has definitely been our visit from a team of Paramedics. This was as part of our 'Superhero' topic.

A group of 6 Paramedics came into school on Tuesday morning (on their day off) to talk to the children about their job.  The children completed a range of activities including; dressing up in some Paramedic clothing, learning some basic first aid and even making a pretend 999 Emergency Call. The session ended with the chance to ask some questions.  I was very impressed with the questions the children asked.  The children really enjoyed the session and their behaviour and listening was exceptional.

In English we have continued our work using the book 'Traction Man'.  This week we have been planning and writing our own Traction Man adventure.  In our stories Traction Man had to defeat the Scissor Shark.  Next week we will be starting a new book 'Supertato'.

In maths we have been dividing and multiplying by 2, 5 and 10.  We have looked at patterns for these times-tables and started to work on answering facts using some mental skills. Work at home counting in  2's, 5's and 10's would be much appreciated as would the asking and answering of simple times-tables facts.

Hopefully you have all booked a Parents Meeting time. If not please do so, there are only a few time slots left.

All the children should have brought a letter home about our 'Superhero Day' which is planned for Wednesday 8th February. This should be a fun day and a great way to finish this topic.

Finally, a reminder about our plans for World Book Day which is coming up in March. We recently sent a letter to all parents detailing our plans to hold a decorate a t shirt theme for the first time. We kindly ask that all financial contributions are made by next Thursday (Thursday 2nd February) to allow us an appropriate length of time to order t shirts and the resources required to decorate them (and of course to give the children chance to decorate them before WBD!). We have received some queries this week regarding sizing for t shirts - please note all children will receive an oversized t shirt as this will give them much more space for their book cover design and ensure every child in school has a suitable t shirt to wear.

Enjoy your weekend!

A busy first full week back!

This week as part of our topic 'Superheroes' we have been learning about Grace Darling.  We have been finding our about why she is famous and how her bravery made her a 'real-life' superhero.

In English we have been using the book 'Traction Man' to inspire our writing.  The children have written some amazing descriptions of him.  They have been remembering to use expanded noun phrases, conjunctions and different types of sentences in their writing.

In maths we have started our unit of work on multiplication and division.  We have been looking at making equal groups and what the 'X' symbol means.

Our Art this half term is all about portraits.  This week we have been looking at the work of Picasso.  The children have experimented with happy and sad colours.  Next week they will be using these colours to create their own Picasso inspired portrait.

This week we have seen the return of 'Aslan'.  Well done to all the children who have been reading at home at least 3 times each week. Let's see if we can hold on to him for another week!

Enjoy your weekend.
