Well we have reached the end of, yet another, half term.  This year really is going too fast!

With all our assessments completed, the children have enjoyed a week catching up on their topic work and DT.

The children really enjoyed testing their 'Pirate Lunchboxes'.  We created a 'zip-wire' and used soft balls as the mermaids, seagulls and strong winds that the lunchboxes needed to survive. The children's boxes needed to have a strong handle, a lid that stayed closed, compartments to keep the food separate and some waterproofing to protect the food from the stormy seas.

The children all did a great job on their lunchboxes and most survived the zip-wire journey.  After the test the children reviewed their lunchboxes and thought about what they might change if they made one again.

In maths. we continued our outdoor learning theme. The children completed a position and direction challenge on the playground.  They worked in pairs to solve the clues.  They needed to use compass direction points (north, south, east and west) and also right, left. clockwise and anti-clockwise.

We completed our 'Message in a Bottle' topic this week.  The children learnt about Neil Armstrong and why he was famous.  They also wrote about the explorer that they have been most inspired by and why.  In our Leeds Rhino Dance they created a flight dance inspired by Amelia Earhart.  They have all thoroughly enjoyed these dance sessions.

I hope you all have a wonderful half term.  It looks like it will be a sunny one!

We began the week by visiting nursery to see their chicks.  Mrs Suddall talked to the children about why the chicks needed a light bulb in their crate and how we can tell which are male and female.  The children enjoyed looking at the chicks and reinforcing their learning about the basic needs of animals.

The children have enjoyed showing their creative side this week working on their DT (Design and Technology) project.  They have been looking at lunchboxes and thinking about what features they need to make them good at the job they need to do.  The children have designed their own lunchboxes and this week have made them.  I was very impressed with their skills and also how well they worked with and supported each other. Next week we will be testing our lunchboxes (more pictures to follow).

Our Leeds Rhino Dance Coach worked with the children on a Christopher Columbus themed routine this week.  The moves included a 'Crows Nest' and sailing on all three of his ships.  The children are really enjoying these sessions.

I cannot believe next week is the last week before our final half term of the year.

Have a wonderful weekend.

I enjoyed listening to the different ways that the children celebrated the King's Coronation weekend.  They all seemed to have enjoyed their extra long weekend.

This week we have had a big focus on reading.  The children have completed some statutory reading assessments and have all tired really hard.  Well done to them all!

In maths we are continuing to recap on a variety of topics.  We have been recapping on telling the time in 15 minute intervals.  Most of the children do find this quite tricky especially as they so rarely see analogue clocks.  Any work at home working on time on O'clock, Half Past, Quarter Past and a Quarter to the hour would be much appreciated.

We have still been using the story of 'The Pirates Next Door' to inspire our writing. We have been focusing on writing detailed and grammatically correct sentences.

The children have taken part in lots of physical activity this week.  They have had the dance coach from Leeds Rhinos, the rugby coach from Leeds Rhinos and have been running a mini-marathon round the school grounds.

Enjoy your weekend.
