Well December has arrived. The countdown to Christmas begins!

The rehearsals for our Christmas Performance are going well and the children are all enjoying performing. Please remember to help your children with their lines making sure that they can say them clearly and loudly.

In maths we have been adding pairs of 2 digit numbers. We have used base 10, drawn representation and started to use a more formal partitioning method. This week's homework will reinforce this learning.

In English we have started a new story called 'The Emperor of Absurdia'. The children are enjoying the story and have started to prepare for some description writing of the main characters.

The children were excited to see snow on Thursday morning. When we have snowy and wet weather it is always a good idea for the children to have some spare socks or tights in their book bags. At least then, if their feet get wet, they will have a dry pair to change into.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The weeks are rushing by too quickly this half term!

The children have continued to enjoy our Art this week and learning about famous artists. We have been mixing colours with white, this week, to create 'tints'. The children used these tints to create a 'Paul Klee' inspired picture.  Once again I was very impressed with their skill, care and artistic talent.

In English we have been describing the setting where the 'Wild Things' live.  We have thought about the things we might see, hear, feel and smell.  Next week we are beginning a new story with a 'Fantasy' setting.

In maths we have continued to add multiples of 10 to a 2 digit number. We have also begun to look at adding pairs of 2 digit numbers where there is no crossing of the tens.

The children should all have taken their lines for the Christmas play home with them tonight.  Their homework is to practise their lines.  Your help with this is much appreciated.

I hope you enjoy the Christmas Fayre on Saturday (those of you who are planning to go).

A shorter week this week, due to Friday's Teacher Training Day, but still a very busy one.

We have continued our writing inspired by the book 'Where the Wild Things Are'.  The children have been sequencing the story, re-telling it orally and re-writing the story. When writing the story, they needed to make sure that they included the most important details and story vocabulary.

In Maths we have been finding 10 more and 10 less of a given number.  The children have used 100 squares to help them.  We have talked about how the ones digits do not change. We have also continued to look at different strategies for adding a single digit to a 2 digit number and 2 single digit numbers where the tens are crossed.

The children are really enjoying this half term's Art.  This week we have been looking at the work of Mark Rothko.  We have been using primary colours to make secondary colours and exploring different shades of colours.

It has been a busy week for 'Special Days'.  On Tuesday the children came to school wearing 'odd socks' for Anti-Bullying Week.  Today they came in their own clothes to raise money for 'Children in Need'.

I hope the children enjoy their longer weekend.
