A rather wet and windy start to, what is supposed to be, the Summer Term.
This week we started our new topic 'African Adventure'. We have been recapping on the Continents and Oceans of the World. The children played a memory game, in small groups, to see which group could label their blank World Map first. Next week we have our 'proper' launch with an African Drumming Workshop.
In maths we have been solving arithmetic style problems using all the 4 operations. We have also had a big push on our Times Tables. The children have done remarkably well and lots will be going home today with certificates. Please keep working on these at home. We have also been recapping on fractions and learning about thirds.
In English we have started the story 'Handa's Surprise'. We have been writing sentences using words with suffixes using the story as a stimulus. The children have also been imagining they were in the story and have been describing what they could see, hear, feel and smell.
Our Art this half term is all about Sculptures. This week we have been sculpting our hands using modelling clay. The children did a fabulous job using small tools and their hands to produce a sculpture of their own hand.
Please remember that our P.E. days have changed this half term (a note was sent out on Monday). P.E. will be on a Wednesday and Thursday!
Enjoy your weekend, hopefully we will get a little more sunshine soon!

We have reached the end of yet another term.
The children have enjoyed sharing some of their work this week with other classes in school.
We shared our Stick Man Information Posters about Yeadon with Lime Tree Class. We also shared our DT Moving Pictures with Lime Tree and also Ash Tree Class. The children all really enjoyed this and were very proud of their work.
Have a wonderful holiday!

The last full week of this half term and term has been completed. I just can't believe how quickly this school year is going.
This week in maths we have been learning about Position and Direction. The children have been using key language including: clockwise, anti-clockwise, forwards, backwards, full turn, quarter turns and three quarter turns. We have also been reinforcing knowledge of left and right. Any reinforcement at home on this key vocabulary would be much appreciated.
We have nearly completed our 'Yeadon Explorers' Topic. This week the children have been writing about the similarities and differences of Yeadon and Tulum. They have also thought about where they would rather live using geographical information in their answers. We have also written questions to a child in Mexico which hopefully we will get some answers to next week.
In English we have continued our writing linked to the book 'Stick Man'. The children have been planning and writing an information text about Yeadon for children. Stick Man has taken a tour of Yeadon and visited the best spots. The children have really enjoyed this piece of writing and done a fantastic job.
Next week the Book Fair will be in school so please remember to visit.
Enjoy the weekend.
