The children have all made a fantastic start to the new half term.

This half term we are looking at Fantasy Stories. Our story to inspire our writing for the next few weeks is 'Where the Wild Things Are'.  This week we have been making predictions, looking at pictures, and writing descriptions of the main characters.  The children have been using expanded noun phrases and trying to include a wider range of conjunctions in their writing.

In Maths we have continued to work on addition and subtraction.  We have been adding by making 10 and adding to the next 10.  This week's homework is reinforcing this learning.  Any recapping on quick recall of number bonds to 10 and 20 at home would be much appreciated.

Our topic this half term is all about Art and Artists. In Art we have been learning about primary colours and using them to create our own Mondrian style mosaic.

The preparations for our Christmas Play have begun this week.  We have started listening to the songs so you may hear a few new songs being sung in your homes.  We have a new play this year, never performed in school before, so this is very exciting!

Have a lovely weekend.

Well we have reached the end of the first half term. What a busy one it has been!

The children have all worked so hard and should be very proud of the great start they have made to the school year.

Today we had a special Key Stage 1 assembly to mark the end of our Fire of London Topic.  The children enjoyed listening to each other recite our half term poem 'Buckingham Palace' by A.A. Milne.  Year 2 Cherry also sang 'London's Burning' as a round.  They all did a fantastic job!

I think the children and the adults in school are all ready for a well earned rest.

Enjoy your holidays!

It has been a very busy week especially with two evenings of parent meetings.  It was lovely to talk to you all and let you know how well your children have settled into Year 2.

This week in maths we have been using our bonds to 10 to help us know our bonds to 20 and 100.  We have also been adding and subtracting numbers within 20.

In English we have been looking at diary entries. We have been looking at Samuel Pepys's diary and thinking about the order the events were written in.

The children enjoyed using water colours.  They have experimented with colours and brush techniques.

On Thursday 10 children attended a 'Cheer Dance' event at Leeds Trinity University.  They all had a great time!

Enjoy your weekend.
