Well February has arrived!

This week we have continued work on our geography topic 'Yeadon Explorers'. The children have been creating their own maps of the school grounds using a key.  We have looked at aerial photos of the local area and school grounds to help.  We also had a little walk round the school grounds.  I was very impressed with their results.

In maths we have been focusing on division.  We have been recapping on 'grouping' and 'sharing' and using both to solve division number sentences. We have also been investigating odd and even numbers and doubling and halving. We will be continuing to work on our quick mental recall of our 2's 5's and 10's time tables so any work at home would be much appreciated.

This week we also started our unit of writing on Instructions. The children have been looking at different instructions and identifying their 'Key Features'. We have been writing command sentences using imperative (bossy) verbs.  The children have also been following instructions. They enjoyed making Friendship Bracelets following a set of written instructions.

In D.T. we have continued to explore moving parts. The children have been using wheel mechanisms to create moving parts.

Enjoy your weekend.

A very blustery week this week.  What weather will next week bring?

The children have continued to work hard on their multiplication and division unit this week.  We have been exploring the difference between grouping and sharing and using both to divide numbers and objects.

In English we have been writing an Invitation to Cinderella inviting her to the King's Royal Ball.  The children have enjoyed thinking of some special information including food on offer and games to be played. Next week we will be moving on to some Instructional Writing.

Our D.T. this term is to do with 'Moving Pictures'.  This week the children have been exploring lever mechanisms.  They have made their own using part of the story from 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.

The highlight of the week has been the 'Skipping Workshop'.  Katie, who came to do the workshop, was very impressed with their skipping skills.  We will continue to work on the different skips taught over the next term in preparation for the Skipping Competition to be held in June.

Please remember to read with your child at home at least 3 times each week.  This regular practise is crucial if your child is to make the continued progress needed.  Please ensure that all home reading is recorded in your child's red reading book.  Thank you!

Have a lovely weekend.

Well what a cold and frosty week is has been!

The children have all fully settled back into the school routine now and have been working very hard.

In maths we have started our unit of work on Multiplication and Division.  We have been finding equal groups and using arrays and repeated addition to solve number sentences. Any work at home on counting in 2's, 5's and 10's would be much appreciated in preparation of learning these times tables.

In English we have continued to use the story of Cinderella.  The children have been sequencing and retelling the story using key story vocabulary.  We have also written recounts as Cinderella.

Next week we have a skipping workshop on Wednesday morning so the children will need to wear their PE kits on this day.

Enjoy your weekend.  Keep warm!
