A shorter week for the children but still, as always, a very busy one.

In maths we have been recapping on multiplication and division.  The children have been using the most efficient methods to solve problems including using their mental recall skills.

In English we have been writing 'Riddles'.  These have been inspired by the lovely descriptions of animals in the book 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley'. The children have been very creative!

As part of our DT unit of work the children have been designing 'Seaside' inspired bunting.  This week we have been making our bunting from our designs.  Some of the finished pieces will be displayed at the Art Exhibition being held next week in Guiseley (see the newsletter).

The children are all getting very excited for next week's Seaside Trip.  Please check the information sent out earlier this week.  Remember the children MUST be in school for 8:30 am that morning for an early departure.

Enjoy your weekend.

Well it's certainly been a hot week this week!

The children have continued their work about the Seaside this week. We have been learning about Human and Physical features of the seaside. We have also talked about human features that are unique to this coastal location.

In maths we have been recapping on subtraction.  We have been looking at exchanging the ten for ones when a subtraction crosses the tens.  They have all grasped this concept really well.  This is great preparation for column methods that will be introduced in Year 3.

In English we have continued using the story 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley'.  The children have been using drama techniques to act out the story.  We then wrote recounts as a postcard.

Our trip to the seaside is getting closer.  Please remember to complete the consent forms that have been sent out on Parent Pay.  There will be more information to follow next week.

Enjoy the sunny weekend (well Saturday at least as Sunday looks wet!).

Cherry Tree Class have had a great start to the final half term of this year.

We have started our new topic 'Oh I do like to be beside the Seaside'. We have been learning about coastal regions and what a seaside is.  We have been using maps to find some famous seaside resorts.

In maths we have been using the inverse to solve addition and subtraction missing number problems.

In English we have started our new book 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley'.  The children have enjoyed listening to the story and acting out the important parts.  We have been thinking about the main characters and writing thought and feeling bubbles.

On Wednesday the children had a special Mind Mate Assembly. As a follow up we used our team skills and resilience skills to work in a group to build shelters for a cuddly toy.  The children thought about the skills that they needed to work well as a team.

Please remember in this warmer weather to make sure that your child brings a filled water bottle each day (containing water).  They should also make sure that they have applied sunscreen before coming to school and bring a hat for extra protection.

Enjoy your weekend.
