Our 'Great Fire of London Workshop' has definitely been the highlight of this week,
On Tuesday we had an Outdoor Learning Practitioner in school working with the Year 2's all day. The children spent the day learning more about the Fire of London in 1666. They made their own houses and even made St. Paul's Cathedral making sure that they painted them to look like the houses of this time with the wood beams. The final part of the day was spent recreating London and then setting fire to it! This was, of course, done in a safe and controlled way.
This gave the children a much better idea of the extent of the fire and the reasons why it happened and spread so quickly. We ended the day with a safety talk about fire and who we would call if we saw one. We also played some games!
The children are really enjoying this topic and their knowledge shared with our visitor was amazing!
Enjoy the pictures!
Have a wonderful, longer, weekend.

Another very busy week in Cherry Tree Class!
In our topic work this week, we have been learning about how we know about the Great Fire of London. We have been sorting evidence that could be used. The children have enjoyed learning about Samuel Pepys and that he buried his cheese and wine in his garden to keep them safe from the fire.
In English we have been describing the setting of 'Buckingham Palace'. We have watched video clips showing the Changing of the Guard and the inside of the Palace.
In maths we have been using the language 'more than', 'less than' and 'equal to' to compare numbers and objects. We have also been using the symbols.
Next week we have our Fire of London Workshop. Thank you for all the boxes. I think we have more than enough now! There will be lots of pictures to follow after the day.
A slightly shorter week for the children next week due to the Training Day on Friday.
Enjoy your weekend.

We have started to learn more about how the fire started in our topic work this week. They have enjoyed learning more facts about 'The Great Fire of London'.
In English we have been thinking about story settings. We have been looking at video clips of London and more specifically the River Thames. The children have written a description of this setting describing sights, sounds, smell and feelings.
In maths we have been looking at number lines using intervals of 1's and 10's. We have also been estimating where numbers would be on number lines.
Yesterday we had our voting for the class School Council Representative. I was very pleased with the number of candidates and with how well they all shared their posters. The votes were very close but the winner was 'Iris'. I am sure that she will represent the class well!
Please remember to send cereal boxes in to school from Monday. We will need them the following week for our workshop.
Have a wonderful weekend!
