Christmas seems to be coming very quickly!

We have been busy this week rehearsing for our Key Stage 1 Christmas Play.  The children are working hard to learn the songs and are enjoying singing them. It is so good to be able to perform a play again. The stage will go up next week which will help those with an acting part see where and when they need to come on. The children have all been asked to work on their lines at home and your help with this is much appreciated.

In maths we have started to work on money.  We have been counting coins and making amounts using coins.

In English we have continued our work using the book 'Where The Wild Things Are'.  We have been writing sentences using our Year 2 conjunctions and planning a recount as Max from the story.

The children enjoyed using the Key Stage 2 Trim Trail on Thursday.  They showed great skill and determination.

Have a great weekend.

This week has been 'Anti-Bullying Week'.  We started the week off by coming to school wearing odd socks to celebrate our differences.

We ended the week wearing our own clothes to raise money for Children in Need!

This week in English the children have been looking at the story 'Where the Wild Things Are'.  They have written predictions about the story and used drama techniques to 'freeze frame' parts of the story.

In maths we have spent some time recapping Place Value and finding bonds within 20 and 100.

The children produced some excellent art work this week.  They used primary colours to mix their own different colours and use them to recreate Kandinsky's famous 'Circle' painting.  I was very impressed with their mixing skills.

The children have all brought home the Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words to practise at home.  We will be having a test on these words before the Christmas Holidays.  Your help at home to learn these important words in much appreciated.

Enjoy your long weekend!

As always, it has been a very busy week!

In English the children have continued to work using the book 'The Emperor of Absurdia'.We have been thinking more about Fantasy Settings and describing the setting in the story.  The children have also been using their 'sequencing' skills to sequence the story using pictures.  We did some oral retelling of the story in pairs using the pictures to help.  The children did a fantastic job and worked hard to include important vocabulary from the book.

In maths we are continuing to work on addition and  subtraction. We have been subtracting using number lines, jottings and our mental skills.  We have done some re-capping of Place Value and used this knowledge to add pairs of 2 digit numbers. We have used equipment, representation and partitioning to solve addition number sentences.

In topic we have been looking at the work of  'Wassily Kandinsky'.  We used bright colours to produce some work in his style. We are going to continue to look at his work next week and use colour mixing to recreate his famous 'Circle' painting.

Enjoy your weekend.
