What a very busy last week of the half term it has been in Cherry Tree Class!

In English we have been using the information we have learnt about The Great Fire of London to make our own Information Posters about this event.  We have looked at key features of information writing and used in our own work.  Our posters have included a heading, sub-headings, paragraphs of information and pictures with labels.

We have finished off our topic by ordering famous people from different periods in chronological order. I was very impressed with how much the children had remembered about Florence Nightingale, who we learnt about last year.

In maths we have been focusing on addition.  We have been adding a single digit to 2 digit numbers.

In PE we have finished our first unit with Sam (the coach from Fiscal).  The children have really enjoyed using their problem solving and team skills to complete a range of Adventurous Activities.  Next half term we will be focusing on our gymnastics skills.

We had our School Council votes on Tuesday.  The children had produced some lovely posters about why they should be on the School Council.  The voting was very close but Max Little gained the most votes.  Congratulations to Max!

Sadly, this week we said 'Goodbye' to Mrs Peel. She left with lots of gifts and well wishes.

Please remember to keep reading with your children over the half term holidays.

Have a great holiday!

It is hard to believe that we have almost reached the end of the first half term.

The children have made me very proud of them this week. They have had a few different people teaching them this week, due to my absence, and have worked incredibly hard and been really helpful.

They have continued with their diary writing using the first person.  This week they have written diaries as Samuel Pepys.  They have written about his experience of the Great Fire of London.  They have used details from the diary he wrote to help them.

It has been so lovely this week to talk to all of you.  It was good to hear how well all the children have settled back to school and how much they have all enjoyed our first topic.

Have a lovely weekend.

It has been, yet another, very busy week.  The week's are going by too quickly!

The children had a very exciting day on Wednesday.  We had our Great Fire of London Workshop which ended with us recreating the fire with our own houses.

The children spent the morning finding out more about this historic event and the reasons why the fire spread so far and so quickly.  I was very impressed with the children's knowledge and the facts that were able to share with Annie, who was leading the day.

We then made our own houses and painted them so that they looked like they were made of wood.  We even had a group making St. Paul's Cathedral which was destroyed in the fire.

The children really enjoyed the fire and it really helped them to have a better understanding of how the fire happened and the problems that caused it to last so long.  We also talked about fire safety and how we protect our homes now.

The children all followed Annie's safety rules during the day, especially when the fire was lit. They were all really sensible and their fantastic behaviour and interest in the Great Fire of London made it a really enjoyable day.

Next week we have our Parent Meetings.  Please make sure that you book your appointment time.  I look forward to talking to you all.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Mrs Moore
