Weekly Update 10.02.23

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog

Hello!

We are already at the end of another half term and half way through the school year..

The highlight of this week was definitely Superhero Day on Wednesday. To celebrate the end of our superhero topic the children came dressed as a range of superheroes. It was lovely to see such a mixture of fictional and real-life heroes. We spent the day completing a range of superhero themed activities such as making our own Supertato.

In English the children have written a comic strip adventure staring their own Super Veggie. The imagination and creativity we have seen for this terms writing has been amazing!

In Maths Year 1 have  continued to learn about the numbers 0 to 100 and have completed lots of practical Maths work. We have focused on finding one more and one less than a given number within 100 and have explored how two digit numbers are made of tens and ones. Year 2 have been subtracting 2-digits from a 2-didgit number using the number line method.

This week is Online Safety Week. As a class we discussed all the fun ways that we can use the internet but also discussed the importance of being safe on the internet. We encourage you to discuss online safety at home and information can be found here: https://saferinternet.org.uk/guide-and-resource/parents-and-carers

Thank you to everyone who came to Parents' Evening! Have a lovely half term break and I will see you again on Monday 20th February.

Hello!

This week we have continued with our superhero focus but we have had a new class text to inspire us... SUPERTATO! Everyone has really enjoyed this book and have finished the week with some fantastic character descriptions of Supertato and the mischievous Evil Pea.

In Maths Year 1 have progressed on to division with the sharing method and multiplication with the grouping method. Year 2 have been consolidating their multiplication and division by 2, 5 and 10.

With a slightly quieter day in school on Wednesday, Lime Tree got the opportunity to have a dance session with the Leeds Rhinos coach which was amazing. We have definitely got some twinkle toes amongst us.

I am very happy to share that as a class we have managed to keep hold of Aslan the Lion from our KS1 Reading Challenge for a 2nd week in a row. Lets keep up this effort with our home reading and a big thank you to all.

Reminder that KS1 are having a Superhero Day next Wednesday 8th and that the children can come to school dressed as a fictional or real-life superhero.

I look forward to seeing you all next week at Parents' Evening.

Have a lovely weekend.

Weekly Update 27.01.23

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog

Hello!

We have enjoyed a slightly shorter week In Lime Tree due to Monday's training day. I was happy to see so many smiling faces returning on Tuesday!

We started our week with a visit from some Paramedics. As part of our superhero topic we have been looking at fictional heroes and real life heroes. The Paramedics talked to us about their job, showed us some of their equipment and even taught us some first aid. We had a great morning!

In Maths, Year 1 have continued to learn how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s and have written repeated addition sums (e.g. 2+2+2=6) to match pictures and arrays. In Year 2 have progressed on to multiplying and dividing by 2, 5 and 10 using grouping and sharing methods.

In English all the children have written their own version of Traction Man by using their imagination to create his mission with the Shark Scissors as the villain.

In Science we have continued learning about materials and discussed the suitability of materials for different purposes, based off the material's properties.

A letter was sent home on Thursday about our 'Superhero Day' which will take place on Wednesday 8th February. Please sign and return the permission slip if you are happy for your child to watch The Incredibles (PG) as part of the end of topic celebration.

Finally, a reminder about our plans for World Book Day which is coming up in March. We recently sent a letter to all parents detailing our plans to hold a decorate a t shirt theme for the first time.  Please see below.  We kindly ask that all financial contributions are made by next Thursday to allow us an appropriate length of time to order t shirts and the resources required to decorate them (and of course to give the children chance to decorate them before WBD!). We have received some queries this week regarding sizing for t shirts - please note all children will receive an oversized t shirt as this will give them much more space for their book cover design and ensure every child in school has a suitable t shirt to wear.

Have a lovely weekend.

Weekly Update 20.01.23

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog

Hello!

Friday seems to have come around very fast this week... Everyone in Lime Tree has had another fabulous week with lots of hard work and fun.

We have continued with our Traction Man writing this week but we have moved on from character descriptions to retelling the whole story. The children really enjoyed the build up to this with lots of 'Talk for Writing' story mapping.

In Maths we have continued with exploring multiplication. Year 1's have been counting in 2's, 5's and 10's. Year 2's have been making 'groups of' practically and continuing with using arrays and repeated addition to solve multiplications.

Yesterday Year 2 had a very special visit from Jodie who leads the KS1 Skipping School Festival which Rufford Park will be attending in Summer. The children really enjoyed this launch session.

There has been lots of other things going on this week such as our Magical Musical Aquarium music lessons and exploring different Materials on the school grounds for our Science.

I have noticed a real jump up in the home reading this week which is great to see! Please do keep this up so we can win Aslan back.

Have a lovely weekend.

Hello!

We have definitely got back in to the swing of working hard in Lime Tree Class this week. The children have outdone themselves with their fabulous 'Traction Man' character descriptions! I couldn't wait to get these on display for the rest of the school and visitors to see...

With Superheroes as our focus we have continued with that theme in our writing and In our topic lessons. Yesterday we started looking into another real life hero - Grace Darling.

In Maths both Year 1 and Year 2 have started exploring multiplication by making and adding equal groups. Year 2 have progressed a bit further by using the multiplication symbol in their number sentences.

In Art our focus this term is portraits. This week we explored how we can use colour to represent emotions in portraits with Picasso as our inspiration.

Have a lovely weekend!
