Weekly Update 09.12.22

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog 2022 - 2024

Hello!

I have been off most of the week, so it has been a little choppy for the children but they have coped really well and enjoyed having lots of different visitors in the classroom.

I was very happy to be back in time for Thursday's Christmas Performance. The children were AMAZING!! Thank you for all the lovely feedback. The children really have done the school proud.

With only one week to go until the Christmas holidays we have made our cards today, ready to be sent home next week.

Just a little reminder that we will be having our class Christmas party on Tuesday 13th. Thank you to all who have made a contribution!

Have a lovely weekend.

Weekly Update 02.12.22

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog 2022 - 2024

Hello!

What a lovely week we have had in Lime Tree Class.

On Tuesday the children had a special visit from Florence Nightingale. She took us on a journey all the way back to Scutari Hospital in 1854. The children had lots of work to do as Nurses and Porters. We also got the chance o look after an injured soldier who had been in the Crimean War. We learnt lots about Florence's life and got to ask her lots of questions.

Christmas arrived in our classroom on Thursday. Our tree is full of the beautiful decorations made by the children on Wednesday and doesn't it look great!

With less than a week to go until our Christmas Performance, we have been practising every day. I know lots of you have also been putting in the time at home too which is really appreciated!

Have a great weekend.

Weekly Update 25.11.22

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog 2022 - 2024

Hello!

Another week gone in a flash. With only 2 weeks to go until our Christmas performance the children have been rehearsing nearly everyday. On Monday all KS1 children were given their parts and lines, so any additional practice at home would be really appreciated!

In English we have continued with our recount writing as Florence Nightingale but in postcard form. I say this every week but I cannot believe the quality of some of the writing in our class, it is amazing!!

In Maths Year 1 have moved on to numbers to 20 and trying to really consolidate the teen numbers. In Year 2 the children have been adding two 2-digit numbers together with the practical support of base 10 and the partitioning method.

We have finished our week off with a world cup/sports themed non-uniform day and we are this weeks 'Aslan Reading Challenge' winners!

Have a lovely weekend.

Weekly Update 17.11.22

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog 2022 - 2024

Hello!

This 4 day week has flown by but we have still been up to lots of things in Lime Tree!

As we are very nearly in glitter season, we have started learning the songs for our Christmas performance 'Prickly Hay'. The children are very excited about this!

In Maths Year 1 have continued with subtraction using a number line to find the difference. In Year 2 the children have moved on to adding and subtracting multiples of ten with the support of 100 squares.

In English we have been writing diary entries as Florence Nightingale. The children have done a fabulous job of getting in to character and writing from Florence's perspective.

Unfortunately we were not the 'Aslan Reading Challenge' winners this week but I do want to say a big thank you to those of you who are making the time to do lots of home reading with your child, it really does make a big difference to their progress. Lets keep it up and hopefully we will be the winners next week!! Remember to sign and date when you have read in the reading record.

Have a lovely weekend.

Weekly Update 11.11.22

Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog 2022 - 2024

Hello!

Another great week for us all in Lime Tree.

We have continued with our instruction writing. The children have written their own instructions using lots of time conjunctions and imperative 'bossy' verbs for how to make a Florence Nightingale lamp.

In Maths, Year 1 have been subtracting within 20 using a part-whole model. Year 2 have also been subtracting 1 digit numbers from 2 digit numbers and adding and subtracting multiples of 10.

We had the unfortunate news on Thursday morning that our Florence Nightingale workshop was cancelled due to Florence being unwell. We have however been able reschedule the workshop for Tuesday 29th November!

With the beautiful Autumn leaves still falling, we seized the opportunity to collect some for a 'leaf man' crafting activity. I'm hoping to keep some to decorate the classroom!

Please make sure you are reading lots at home. The winner of the first Aslan Reading Challenge will be announced next week and all the children want to win Aslan for our class.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Cotterill
