Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hi

We have had another good week in Ash Tree.

Year 6 have been working really hard by completing some practice assessments whilst Year 5 have been working on their place value skills.

In English, we have all been working on our basic grammar and descriptive writing skills.

Please also see the information below that was communicated to parents last week about our upcoming trips to Armley Mills.

As part of this term’s work on Victorians, we are planning to take the children in Year 5 and Year 6 on an educational visit to Armley Mills in Leeds.  During the day the children will dress and spend the day as Victorian children in a Victorian mill.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the dates of the trip for your child’s year group may differ slightly to the dates previously communicated on the school newsletter in the summer term. The trips will now run as follows:

All Year 5 Oak and all Year 5/6 Ash – Friday 22nd September 2023

All Year 6 Maple – Tuesday 26th September 2023

All children will come to school at the normal time and will return to school for the end of the school day.

Armley Mills encourage all children to come dressed as Victorians. The visit is more authentic if the children are in costume. Pinafores and waistcoats may be provided by Armley Mills; however, children are requested to come to school wearing the following on the day of the visit:

Boys:  dark trousers (no jeans), white shirt with a collar and a waistcoat if they have one.

Girls:  dark skirt, white top, long socks or dark tights and a pinafore if they have one.  Hair tied back with ribbons or in plaits/ringlets.

In keeping with the day, dark school shoes are also recommended.

Have a good weekend :)

Hi and welcome back!

We have had a great start to the new academic year in Ash Tree.

One of the highlights of this week was our first PSHE lesson on Tuesday afternoon where we practised team work, collaboration and communication skills to build the best bridge using newspaper, art straws and masking tape.

Another highlight was our coded hundred square maths lesson which left us puzzled as we worked hard to crack the code.

It was lovely to meet so many parents and carers at the meet the teacher events on Wednesday. Thank you to everyone who came to say hello!

Please also see the information below that was communicated to parents this week about our upcoming trips to Armley Mills.

Have a good weekend - rest and recover from all those early starts and see you Monday!

Weekly Update 21.7.23

We did it! We have reached the end of another school year.

Today we said goodbye to our Year 6's. We wish them the best of luck for the future and are sure they will go on to achieve well at secondary school.

Click here to see some of their highlights from their last few weeks at Rufford Park.

I would also like to say a big well done to Year 5 this week who - whilst the Year 6's were enjoying their Summer Fun Day organised by the PTA - spent some time reading stories to children in KS1. All the KS1 teachers were really impressed with how well they read and this is something we would like to continue next year.

We have had a great year in Year 5/6 Ash and I will miss them all next year.

Have a fantastic summer!

Miss Bairstow :)
