Weekly Update 29.4.22

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hi,

It has been an incredibly busy week in school with the highlight being the Scholastic Book Fair! It was so lovely to see so many children from across school visiting the fair before and after school with their adults and enjoying browsing and selecting the exciting range of books. I hope everyone enjoys their new reads and I can't wait to hear all about them. The book fair was a huge success and raised the highest total of any Rufford Park book fair EVER! This is fantastic news as we are able to claim back 60% of the total spend from Scholastic to invest in exciting new books for school so thank you very much for supporting this. I would also like to say thank you to the amazing Year 6 "takeover team" who have been involved in the organising the run up to the book fair and who took the lead this week to make sure everything ran smoothly - I do not think the fair would have been as much of a success without Harley, Freya, Zeke, Eva, Daniel, Henry, Ella, Evie, Lily, Frankie, Jordan, Finlay, Laila, Adam, and Lexie's hard work.

Part of the Y6 team's role was to promote the book fair to other children across school and gather interest by running a competition. They chose to hold a "Book in a Box" competition which was also a great success. The entries from across school were of an incredible standard and we really enjoyed looking at them all and of course - voting! We also had winner in our class as Tilly's Matilda entry was voted for as the UKS2 winner!

We are also excited to be able to share with you some of the highlights of last week's Y6 residential to Peat Rigg. We all had a fabulous time and I'm sure both children and adults will enjoy looking at some of the exciting and adventurous things we got up to! You can find the photo galleries using the link below:

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend and I will see you all on Tuesday.

Hello!

For Y6, this week has been all about the Residential.  We have had a brilliant time in North Yorkshire at Peat Rigg.  I am sure that your child will tell you all about it and we will upload a slide show of all the best photos next week.

Miss Bairstow :)

Back at school, in Y5/6 the children have been writing some poetry. After going through various types of poems and rhyme schemes, the class have individually decided on their preference of poem and created some to present to the class. In maths, the pupils have been working through interpreting a variety of tables such as pictograms and timetables. We have been engaging in topic work surrounding rivers around the world and their features. Pupils also took a keen interest in both their art and science activities this week with them being able to create their own Picasso faces and design an experiment to create non-Newtonian liquids.

Overall a very positive week with excellent engagement and a fantastic attitude to learning.

Hello!

We can't believe we have completed another half term already! Although it has only been short, this half term has been very busy and very productive!

We enjoyed finishing our class guided reading book, King of the Cloud Forests, this week.

We are running an exciting competition over the Easter holidays which we would like as many children across school as possible to get involved with. All children received a poster today with all the details and some examples for inspiration on.

The competition is “Book in a Box”! To enter you need to find an old cereal/shoe/parcel box and decorate it with all the characters and scenery from your favourite book/story.

Please include the name of the book or story you have chosen in your design and make sure your name AND class are written clearly on the back of your entry.

Entries must be in school by Friday 22nd April at the latest.

All entries will be displayed in the hall for you to vote for your winners during the book fair which is in school from Monday 25th April – Thursday 28th April.

There will be 4 categories to vote for and 4 winners across school:

Nursery and Reception
KS1 (Year 1 and 2)
Lower KS2 (Year 3 and 4)
Upper KS2 (Year 5 and 6)

Winners will receive a voucher to spend at the book fair so enter now to be in with a chance of winning yourself a new, FREE book!!!!!

I hope you have a lovely Easter break and come back feeling refreshed!

Miss Bairstow :)
