Weekly Update 5.5.23

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hi,

The Y6 children in Ash have worked hard this week in the final preparations for the SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) next week and we have been pleased to see the progress they have made. It is particularly important that children arrive promptly at school every day next week so the Year 6 cohort can complete the assessments together. We are running a Breakfast Club in the hall each morning next week so children can arrive at school and come to the main hall (the side doors will be open) around 8:30am. I have spoken to the children about the importance of getting a good night's sleep.

Year 5 will need to enter at the usual time, using the usual door. Mr Smith will greet them and take them to the community room with all of their things.

After all of the hard work the children have put in this week, we enjoyed some time "off timetable" on Friday afternoon to complete some coronation themed activities.

Ash Tree class looking very coronation ready in their red, white and blue themed clothing!

Have (another!) lovely bank holiday weekend and see you on Tuesday.

Miss Bairstow :)

Hi,

The first thing I would like to share with you this week is the gallery of pictures from our amazing trip to Peat Rigg. The link below will take you directly to the gallery on the school website.

https://www.ruffordparkprimary.org.uk/classes/year6maple/y6-residential-peat-rigg-2023

This week in English we have been writing formal thank you letters. The Y6 children who went to Peat Rigg have been writing to the staff there and the Y5 children and any Y6 children who did not go to Peat Rigg have been writing to Mr Smith who taught them whilst we were away.

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been recapping area and perimeter. Mrs Trotter's group have been learning about angles.

I would also like to remind you how important it is that Year 6 children return any homework they are set each week. It is a good way for them to consolidate their learning and also teaches them how manage their time and work independently before they go to high school. Please ask your child about their homework to ensure they remember to complete it and hand it in on time.

Have a good weekend and enjoy the extra day for the bank holiday!

Miss Bairstow

Weekly Update 21.4.23

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hello!

For Y6, this week has been all about the Residential.  We have had a brilliant time in North Yorkshire at Peat Rigg.  I am sure that your child will tell you all about it and we will upload a slide show of all the best photos next week.

Miss Bairstow :)

Back at school, in Y5/6 the children have been working with Mr Smith on a bit of a project building up to Earth Day on Saturday - the theme for which is 'Invest in Our Planet' and what that might mean on a world, national or personal level.

They have been looking at human impact on planet earth health and thinking about waste and what we do with it and where it can end up. They have also been outside to look at the biodiversity of our own school site and whether things could be done to improve it.
