Weekly Update 4.11.22

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Hello everyone,

We have had a great first week back and it has been brilliant to see the children return to school eager to learn and ready to challenge themselves. We have had lots of different activities this week with children taking part in rehearsals for the Tree of Lights festival at Yeadon Town Hall, as well as cross country trials and our Northern Ballet Workshop (pictures from the session can be found on the class page).

In maths, we have continued to look at column methods for addition and subtraction. In science, we have recapped our learning on the digestive system and looked at the different parts of food chains.

In English, we are building our skills to write adventure stories and have been looking at character descriptions and speech marks this week ready to write our story next week.

In PE, we have started our skipping lessons which has been an excellent way to increase our heart rate and boost our energy levels.

Homework will be sent home today along with this week's spellings. Please make sure your child has read at least 5 times before next Wednesday so they can receive one of our class reading rewards. We will be doing our Times Tables Awards test next Thursday so we encourage you to have a go on TT Rockstars before then.

Have a lovely, safe weekend,

Miss Simms

Weekly Update 21.10.22

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Hello everyone,

We have made it to the end of this half term and what a brilliant half term it has been! The children have matured so much since September and their listening skills and independence levels get better every day. They should be very proud of themselves and the things they have achieved since September.

In art, we have been inspired by Le Corbusier to draw and shade shape houses. In maths, we have used our number knowledge to excel in column addition and subtraction. In English, we have developed our writing skills by creating simile poems that are better than sliced bread.

We have not sent homework home today but encourage you to keep reading as much as possible and practise times tables and number bonds so that we can hit the ground running when we come back after half term.

Wishing you a restful and happy half term,

Miss Simms and Mrs Bellwood

Weekly Update 14.10.22

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Hello everyone,

It was lovely to see you all on Tuesday and Wednesday at Parents' Evening this week and I hope that you are as impressed as I am with the children.

In our learning this week, we have started a new writing focus of poetry and we began this session by performing 'On the Ning Nang Nong' as a class. We have looked at similes and used our senses to create a simile poem to describe an Autumnal setting.

In maths, we have been looking at addition on a numberline and the children have worked hard to understand how to exchange ones, tens and hundreds.

We held the vote for our School Council Representative this morning and would like to say a huge congratulations to Rory for his fantastic speech which secured him enough votes from the class to be chosen as the Willow Tree representative. I am sure you will be a brilliant member of our school council!

Homework will be sent home tonight and is due in on Wednesday. Please continue practising your times tables and number bonds to 10 and 100.

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Simms
