It was great to be back this week and see the work the pupils had been doing whilst I was battling the dreading double red line.
In Science, we continued working on our new unit 'Properties of Materials'. We discussed different properties that materials can possess and their definitions. We then choose some materials and tested these properties: hardness, transparency, magnetism, flexibility and permeability. We will be discussing our results and what we could use the materials for.
In English, we have continued working on features of a Warning Story. I was impressed with the pupils 'show not tell' work, where they had to provide more detail about how a character is feeling without using the word itself. I have attached some examples below. Can you tell what emotion/feeling they portraying?

Happy New Year to everyone. I hope your breaks were enjoyable and relaxing, without too much disruption.
It's been good having the pupils back in school and hearing some of the interesting things they've done over the break.
Having covered perimeter and area at the end of last term, we have moved back onto multiplication and division, which the pupils have done really well with. They have impressed me with their times table knowledge and how quick they have grasped written methods.
We begun our new Science topic; Properties of Materials. We discussed different properties that materials possess and will be investigating this more next week.
In English, we have read through a WAGOLL of a warning story, which the pupils will be writing over the coming weeks. We discussed the features of the story and broke each part down and discussed the pattern we will be following.

What a fantastic week to finish this term.
We started with our dress rehearsal on Monday afternoon, which went well but it gave us some areas to continue practicing before the performance on Wednesday.
Our performance then took place on Wednesday morning and afternoon and the pupils knocked it out of the park. Anybody watching would testify to the excellent job all the year groups did with their acting and singing. Here are some photos of the cast at the end of the Wednesday afternoon performance.
Oak Tree Class have enjoyed some of the Christmas-based activities we have done this week. We have been creating a Christmas decoration, which involved designing, creating and decorating.
On Thursday, we had our Christmas party, where we played party games, completed a quiz and watched a film with some snacks. A huge thank you to everyone who was able to donate some money towards that, the pupils really enjoyed it.
Finally, a massive thank you to the pupils, staff, parents and carers for supporting me through my first term at Rufford Park. I hope you all have a joyous break and Santa brings you everything you've asked for.
