We have begun writing our myths in English this week. I have been impressed with the level of writing the pupils have produced so far. I have included a snippet of some expanded noun phrases, simple sentences and fronted adverbials some of the pupils have included in their work below. The pupils have some great imagination and have worked hard drafting and editing their work, I'm looking forward to reading the published versions next week.
We have continued using the Chromebooks in Computing this week. The pupils were given the task of animating their name/initials using Scratch. Pupils were given specific criteria to follow but were able include other features they could code.

The school has readopted a house system for pupils. After discussions with classes, the school council chose to have the house names based on gemstones. We have Ruby (red), Sapphire (blue), Emerald (green) and Amber (yellow). In Oak Tree Class, the sorting cone 'decided' which house the pupils were in. Pupils enjoyed the low-budget Harry Potter theme for their house reveal.
This week, we welcomed a coach from the Leeds United foundation, who will be teaching the class PE on a Wednesday and also taking a small writing group to help developing writing-based skills and composition.
Oak Tree Class have had the honour of being the very first pupils in the school to use our brand new Chromebooks. The pupils were very excited with this opportunity and have used them, this week, to do some programming in Computing and do some research in History. We are looking forward to continue using them to support our learning in the classroom.
(The highest level of concentration I've seen all year)

It was great to welcome back all the pupils after the Easter break. With Year 6 being on residential from Wednesday this week, I think Year 5 have enjoyed the extra space during break.
With a new term, comes a range of new topics.
In history, we are studying Ancient Greece and the pupils have shown a good interest in topic already.
In P.E., we are taking part in athletics and netball, which will hopefully coincide with some lovely Summer weather.
In art, we are using inspiration from another ancient civilization: The Ancient Egyptians and will be looking at using a range of medium to create faces and self-portraits.
Even though it's been a short week, the pupils have worked with great eagerness and productivity. Hopefully, this continues through the half-term.
