Another great week in Oak Tree Class.
We had a super trip to Armley Mills last Friday. A huge thank you to those who were able to come in costume; it really added to the experience. I've attached some picture below (there will be an album to follow).
The trip has led fantastically into our writing in English, where we have begun looking a diary entries. We will have an opportunity to go through and discuss our trip and photos when we begin to plan writing our own diaries on Friday.
We have continued studying forces in Science. This week we have completed an air resistance investigation. Our aim was to create a parachute, that would provide the slowest drop of our object.
We discussed the different variables involved, before deciding to change the length of the parachute string each time. We then timed the drop and recorded the results.

We've had another great week in Oak Tree Class, with our trip to Armley Mills to finish.
The pupils have worked really hard this week, especially in English where we have written, edited and published biographies based on Dr Barnardo (which links to our class topic: Victorians). It has been a pleasure reading through the biographies and seeing the pupils working hard on them.
In science this week, we have continued studying forces, in particular Gravity. We conducted a Science observation, where we had to measure the mass (how heavy an object is) of an object and then its weight (the gravitational pull on the object) before comparing the results.
Measuring the mass with a scale. Measuring the weight with a Newton meter.
On Friday, we embarked on our trip to Armley Mills. The trip has a great link to our Victorian topic and will lead onto some fantastic writing in English. The pupils all did a great job of dressing up and looked the part. Pupils were able to take part in a range of activities, including looking around the mill and taking part in a Victorian classroom experience. A photo album will follow.

First full week finished!
It has been really good to get onto our full timetable and begin our range of learning journeys.
I feel the pupils have enjoyed, and benefitted from, being on a more structured timetable.
One part of the week the pupils really enjoyed was our Fisical PE session on Wednesday afternoon. During this half term, the pupils will be learning a range of Outdoor Adventure Activities. Here are a few images of some of the tasks they were set, either individually or as a team.
A massive thank you to those parents/carers that came to our 'Open Classroom' on either Wednesday or Thursday after school. I appreciate not everyone was able to attend so I have sent a pack of Year 5 based information home with those pupils. If you would like to come and have a look around the classroom please do not hesitate to get in touch an I'm sure we can arrange something.
