Weekly Update 7.10.22

Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hi,

This week in English we have been writing diary entries from the perspective of a WW2 evacuee. We learnt lots about evacuees at Eden Camp so it has been nice to see this learning in practise this week!

In maths, Mrs Trotter and Mrs Senior's groups have been learning about negative numbers. Miss Bairstow's group have been looking at placing numbers up to 7 digits on a number line.

We are looking forward to welcoming parents into school next week for parents' evening. Please make an appointment ASAP if you have not already done so.

Have a good weekend.

Miss Bairstow

Hi,

We have had another great week in Ash Tree Class.

In English, we have been planning a diary entry from the perspective of a WW2 evacuee. We have been using everything we learnt at Eden Camp and in topic lessons so far to help us understand what it would have been like to have been evacuated and how those children must have felt.

In maths, we were taught in our new maths groups for the first time. All groups have been working on their understanding of place value (some up to 10, 000, 000!) and will continue with this for the next few weeks.

We completed another science experiment this week linked to light. This time, we were investigating the effect water has on how light travels and how refraction works.

Good luck to everybody competing in the first Saturday morning cross country tomorrow!

Have a good weekend.

Weekly Update 23.9.22

Hi,

Although this was a shorter week due to the Bank Holiday Monday, we have certainly packed a lot in in UKS2!

Year 5 visited Eden Camp Modern History Museum on Tuesday and Year 6 visited on Wednesday to kickstart our World War Two topic. We learnt so much and the children behaved brilliantly. Here are a couple of photos of the groups enjoying their trips. More pictures of our day will be uploaded into a separate gallery ASAP.

In Year 6's absence on Wednesday, Year 5 were busy continuing their science work by learning all about light and how it reflects with Mr Smith. To demonstrate what they had learnt over the last few weeks they made working periscopes. The Year 5s then helped teach the Year 6s on Thursday how to make a periscope too!

Have a super weekend.

Miss Bairstow
