Hello everyone,
This week, in our writing, we have been focusing on poetry, specifically looking at Haiku poems. The children have been really enthusiastic about it and we've had some lovely discussions. They have learnt about all the rules for Haiku poems and where it originated from and what the themes of Haiku poems usually revolve around. They have been working on their own drafts and I have to say that they were great to read and even greater to listen to the children reading them aloud for the rest of the class. They will edit and publish these next week.
In maths, we have started our work on statistics this week. The children have learnt about what statistics are, what they involve and how to read and analyse data in tables, bar charts and graphs, whilst also asking their own questions based on the information that has been collected and presented.
In science, we have continued our work on plants, and this week we have been focusing on the different parts of a plant and the roles that those have in pollination and fertilisation.
As you know, we have also been growing our own sunflowers and they are growing very well, we now even have some that are beginning to flower, which put a lot of smiles on faces.
In music, we have continued our unit on recorders. This week, we introduced another note (D) alongside the other notes that the children have practised with previously (B, C, A and G) and it has become even more challenging playing all these notes accurately, for the right amount of beats and in tune, together as a class, but the children have been brilliant and have always been willing to put the effort and practice in to play a tune successfully. We even had a pupil be brave enough to come to the front and play a solo, which I thought was fantastic.
The children also took part in sports day, and even though the weather wasn't brilliant, they still had a great time and took part in all the events with a great competitive attitude.
The KS2 science club has also been very popular this half term and the children have really enjoyed all the different sessions, which have allowed them to step in to the role of a young engineer and make a range of great creations and understand the science behind how they work e.g vibrating bugs.

Hello,
This week the children published their alternative Stone Age Boy stories and they should be very proud of them.
We have continued to read our class novel (Stig of the Dump) and the children have been really enjoying it.
Our final history lessons will combine history and computing together. The children have been researching lots of different facts about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age and have begun working on their own presentations. This links in really well with computing, as it's a great example of desktop publishing, which has been the focus of our computing sessions this half term. The children have really enjoyed working on them so far.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou :)

Hello everyone,
This week, the children have been working on writing their alternative stories of Stone Age Boy. They have now completed them and edited them to improve the quality further. We continuously read examples together as we were working on the different sections of the story and I was very impressed by the quality of work that has been produced.
In maths, our focus has been on time, specifically working on converting between analogue time and 12 hour digital time, converting between 12 hour digital and 24 hour digital and then converting between all three. We also focused on time related word problems as well. Whilst it has been a challenge for some children, every single child has given it their best effort and the improvement from the start to the end of the week has been excellent.
In music, we have continued our unit on recorders and have moved to stage 2 now. The children have become very confident playing pieces of music that consist of the B, A and G notes and have also had a go at writing their own basic music. They were also introduced to the C note this week, which did create some challenges, however, as always, the children demonstrated great resilience when faced with a challenge. With practise, the improvement was fantastic throughout the lesson.
In science, we are continuing our unit of work on plants. This week, the focus has been on the transportation of water through plants. The children have set up an investigation to see whether water moves through a plant quicker in warmer temperatures or in colder temperatures. They all made sure that they set up their experiments fairly and have been observing them everyday to see the changes that are occurring and comparing how quickly it is happening.
In our reading, we are continuing to read our class novel (Stig of the Dump) and the children have been doing some excellent retrieval and inference work based on the chapters that we are currently reading.
That's all for now,
Mr Kyriacou :)
