Weekly Update-2/12/22

Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello everyone,

This week, the children have been working really hard during their assessments, so well done everyone!

In science, we have been focusing on the 7 different nutrients that the body requires, as well as looking at what a balanced diet looks like. The children were then tasked with bringing in different food packaging so that we could identify the different nutrients that appear in different foods.

In computing, we have continued our work on programming and this week the children were creating their own piano with different keys. They then created the code that would allow them to play the different keys, which would make the different sounds, but also change the colour of the key as well. The children really enjoyed it and it was so nice to see the children start to play some different tunes using their piano keys that they had created.

Weekly Update-17/11/22

Hello,

It's been another busy and productive week. We are continuing to read our Roman mystery book, The Thieves of Ostia. We are on chapter 13 and the children are absolutely loving it. The children are also continuing to sharpen up a variety of their reading skills, particularly their inference skills, and it's fantastic to see how far they have progressed since September.

We've had a busy writing week. The children have been working incredibly hard on their adventure stories and produced some really exciting pieces of work. They will be editing them next week before publishing their final pieces. Well done for all of your hard work!

In maths, we have been focusing on estimating (using rounding) for addition and subtraction, as well as using a variety of strategies to check our addition and subtraction calculations.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou

Hello everyone,

This week, we have continued working on adventure story features and the children have started to work on their plans for their stories, which will revolve around the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the destruction of Pompeii.

In maths, we have been focusing on column subtraction and exchanging, as well as solving word problems involving both addition and subtraction. It's been lovely to see the children identifying the key information in the word problems, which then allows them to determine which operation they need to use.

In science, our focus has been on teeth and we conducted an experiment (or eggsperiment) which was designed to show what different liquids can do to the teeth, with the shell acting as the enamel of the tooth. We've had some super discussions as a class and it's so lovely to see how enthusiastic they are about it.

That's all for now,

Mr Kyriacou :)
