Hello everyone,
This week, in maths, we have continued our work on decimals. We have been focusing on comparing decimals, ordering decimals, and rounding decimals to whole numbers. The children have been doing fantastic with this unit of work and it’s great to see the huge increase in confidence.
In science, we have continued our unit of work on plants. This week, we have planned and set up an investigation. Our investigation revolves around whether the number of seeds planted in a pot will affect the way that it grows. The children understood what equipment was required and why, what could be changed (variable) and what will be kept the same in the experiment in order to keep it fair. We have one pot with 1 seed, one with 2 seeds, one with 4 seeds and one with 8 seeds. The children made their predictions (hypothesis) about what they think will happen for each one, and more importantly, gave good scientific reasoning behind why they think that (based on all their knowledge that they have learnt about plants so far). They will now observe and measure the height of each plant in each pot, and they will do this once a week and record their results as they go along.
In computing, our unit of work has revolved around networks and the internet. This week, the children were learning about what websites and webpages are, identifying the different features used on a website and then considering what sort of things you must think about before adding your own content to a website.
This week, we also had PCSO Sophie kindly come in to talk to the children about online safety.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou

Hello everyone,
In our writing, we have been focused on writing our recounts based on our experiences during the Easter break. We have completed our drafts and have just finished editing them. The children have done a great job with these, and it’s been so lovely to read about all the lovely things that they did throughout their two-week break. Well done!
This week, in science, we have been dissecting plants, looking at the different parts of them, understanding what the roles of each part are and why they are necessary. We have also been discussing the similarities and differences between different plants.
The children also took part in their road safety workshop this week. They gave some great answers when they were asked a variety of questions about different road safety scenarios, and yet again, they also represented the school incredibly well.
As part of our unit of work on Egyptian death masks, this week’s lesson has been focused on creating self-portraits using sketching pencils. The children took their time, applied the skills that they had learnt and created some lovely pieces of work.
For our topic launch lesson, the children became archaeologists and were searching around different areas of the school field to locate ancient Egyptian artefacts. As a class, we then discussed what we could infer about the items that we had found. We also looked at a history timeline, with the children placing the timeline in the correct chronological order and then locating the time period that the ancient Egyptian civilisation existed in. We also identified other civilisations that existed at the same time. This helped the children to understand that in the past, it wasn’t just one civilisation existing at a time, which was then followed by another, but instead, multiple civilisations which existed simultaneously in different parts of the world.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou :)

Hello everyone,
This week, the children took part in the Skipping School Skipping Festival. This involved competing against five other schools, in a variety of different skipping skills. The children have been practising really hard for this and did extremely well in the individual and team skipping events. The children also performed their skip dance, which was lovely to watch. The children were also extremely well behaved and represented the school really well. Rufford Park were the overall winners of the competition, which means that we have qualified for the Leeds City Final. Well done, everyone!
In maths, we have started our unit of work on decimals, and this week, we have been focusing on converting fractions (that involve tenths and hundredths) into decimals. The children have been working very hard on this and have made great progress throughout the week.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou :)
