Weekly Update 26.11.21

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Hello everyone,

This week we have been learning about Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and laws… including their use of ‘trial by ordeal’!

In maths, we’ve been developing our knowledge of division and looking at the differences between sharing and grouping.

Of course, we’ve also been incredibly busy rehearsing for our upcoming Christmas play, Snow Queen. All parts have now been cast – and lines / song lyrics have been sent home for your child to learn.

Here are some tips you may wish to share with your child:

  1. Don’t just read it... say it out loud!
  2. Ask someone else to hold the script and say the other parts – so you’ll know when it’s your turn to speak.
  3. If you are friends with other children in the cast, could you meet up to practise?
  4. Add a physical action when rehearsing... e.g. clenching your fist, kneeling, clapping, punching the sky. It doesn’t have to be the action you’ll use on stage!
  5. Write out or photocopy lines you are finding tricky... then do something creative with it (colour it, cut it out, carry it around in your pocket, stick it up in your house, etc)
  6. The golden rule is LITTLE AND OFTEN… 5-10 minutes per day is ideal!

Don’t forget to return your TICKET REQUEST FORM by Monday. If your child has mislaid it, you can download another copy here.
Homework for this week can also be downloaded here.
Have a lovely weekend!

Good afternoon everyone!

What a terrific week it has been here in Willow Tree Class!

We have been celebrating lots more achievements including our Times Tables Awards…

Congratulations to Ethan and Eva who have achieved their Bronze Award and Viraaj and Amelia who have achieved their Silver Award!

Let’s have a huge push on times tables and see if we can get everyone to complete their Bronze Award in the next few weeks…

In maths, we have started our new topic of multiplication and division and have done lots of practical activities to help us with finding “groups of” and sharing.

In science, we have been looking at what we all have inside of us…..a skeleton! We have been finding out about exoskeletons, endoskeletons and even something called a hydrostatic skeleton!

The children have worked extremely hard this week and I am very impressed with their efforts in reading particularly.

Homework will be sent home today, as we are not in tomorrow, and will be due back on Wednesday.

Have a lovely, long weekend!

Miss Simms

Hello everyone,

What a busy week we have had here in Willow Tree Class! Highlights include…

  • Taking part in ENGLAND ROCKS – an online competition run by TT Rockstars. We had a fantastic battle with Beech and Cedar tree class… many of the children answered thousands of correct answers during the course of the week. A huge well done to Amber and Jakub for achieving the two highest scores in our class!
  • We had our first singing assembly with Mr Jennings and enjoyed learning songs for our upcoming Christmas play, Snow Queen. We also carried out after-school auditions for speaking parts… well done to everyone who learnt the lines and had a go!
  • We have been testing our jumping and coordination skills in PE with our new focus for this half term which is skipping and the children have been fantastic at using songs and rhymes to encourage them to keep going.
  • We learnt how to use speech marks and used superstar vocabulary instead of the word "said" for our newspaper reports on the Viking raid at Lindisfarne.
  • In maths we developed our subtraction skills and the children have shown great determination this week with some tricky column subtraction.
  • In science we learnt how different animals (including humans) have different nutritional requirements.

Homework has been sent home today and is due in on Wednesday. Please encourage your child to read every day, we are really starting to notice a significant improvement in their understanding of texts which is fantastic!

Have a great weekend!

Miss Simms
