Weekly Update 11.3.22

Hello everyone,
The children have been busy progressing their learning this week in lots of different subjects. In science, we have been looking at our new topic of Living Things and their Habitats and have begun to investigate the different habitats around us. We spent some time looking around the school grounds to see how many different habitats we could find and then had a go at drawing and labelling them.
In maths, we have finished our fractions topic and I have been extremely impressed with how the children are able to apply their knowledge to a range of question styles.
In English, we have been working on the final chapter of Grandpa Chatterji and used our knowledge and understanding of the chapter to form the basis of our writing focus (diary entries!).
Homework will be sent home tonight. Please begin looking at the 8x tables and the spellings below:
YEAR 3 SPELLINGS (homophones and near homophones): scent, sent, vain, vein, rode, road, steel, steal, waist, waste.
Don't forget about the Fairtrade project due ion on the 28th of March! I have had a few submitted already and they are looking fantastic!
Have a fantastic weekend,
Miss Simms

Good afternoon everyone,
What a busy week have had here in Willow Tree! It has been absolutely fantastic but certainly very busy!
On Tuesday, the children celebrated Pancake Day within our fraction lesson by helping the kitchen find the blueprints for the pancake order! We had to look at the pancakes around the classroom and match them with the ingredient list in front of us by checking what fraction of the pancake had certain ingredients on. After working so hard on their fractions to make one whole, the children decorated and ate their own pancakes! (Pictures can be found on the class page under the highlights section.)
We also welcomed back Sam to our PE lessons on Tuesday morning and the children had lots of fun starting their new Outdoor Adventure Activity topic. Throughout these lessons, we will be focusing on teamwork and general outdoor skills which will help us get ready for our trip to Nell Bank at the end of March.
On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day with a variety of different characters from lots of well-known books. We spent the first part of our morning talking about the character we had all come as before playing a game of Recommendation Bingo where we asked our classmates lots of different questions to find new books for us to read. Later on that morning, Willow Tree were invited to a Book Swap where we were able to choose one book, that we thought we would enjoy, to take home and read. Thank you to everyone who provided books for the Book Swap! Take a look at the class page for the fantastic WBD pictures!
This week's homework focuses on the division facts of the 6 times tables and the spellings here:
grate, great, grown, groan, plain, plane, peace, piece, rain, reign
Have a great weekend,
Miss Simms

Hello everyone!
I would firstly like to say a huge thank you to everyone for all the support you have provided at home that has resulted in major progress in the children's learning at school!
We have done several assessments this week and I am very proud of each and every single child for the effort they have put into their work.
We have had a busy half term but the children have coped marvellously and I am very excited to see what Spring 2 brings us!
Over half term please keep reading and practising those times tables ready for the Times Table Award tests in the first week back. At parent's evening I sent home the spellings for the rest of the year so it would be a good idea to have a quick look at these so we are prepared for when we come back.
Have a restful week off,
Miss Simms
