Weekly Update 18.6.21

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog 2020/2021

Hi everyone,

The week started with a transition visit for those children moving onto Benton Park School. They had a fantastic day and particularly enjoyed the scientific investigations they carried out. Guiseley School transition days are in the next few weeks.

A productive production week! Year 6 had their first whole year run through the script. Parts will begin to be allocated this week and then the hard work of learning lines and all of the songs begins. We are looking forward to inviting parents/carers in to watch the performance on the 14th/15th July.

In English, some amazing descriptive writing was completed. The focus was on using a range of different sentences and including powerful verbs, adjectives and similes. See some of the super examples below.

Enjoy the weekend

Weekly Update 11.6.21

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog 2020/2021

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the final half-term of the year.

Year six have been busy making preparations for end of year celebrations. We read through our leavers' production script and listened to the songs. Parts will be be given next week so the children will then need to learn their lines and the lyrics to all of the songs. We will begin rehearsals shortly.

Everyone was excited to hear that they can finally order their leavers' hoodies that are kindly being paid for by the PTA. These can be ordered direct from PC Sports and will be delivered to the school to be given out to the children. All orders must be received by Friday 18th June.

In maths, we have been studying ratio and in English we have been looking at ways we can improve our descriptive writing by using a range of different sentences from our class novel Darwin's Dragons.

Every week is definitely going to be a busy week!

Enjoy the sunshine!

Weekly Update 28.5.21

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog 2020/2021

Hi everyone,

An end to a busy week and half-term in Maple Tree Class; lots of creative and academic activities taking place.

In RE, everyone has enjoyed learning about Rangoli art and completed some very detailed colouring, resulting in some beautiful pieces of work (see below). In maths, we completed our unit on statistics by learning the vocabulary associated with circles and learned how to interpret Pie charts. We are hoping to complete our own Year 6 Pie chart soon when we decide which colour to choose for our Leavers' Hoodies.

We have completed a few assessments in reading and maths. There was a noticeable focus when these were taking place. Everyone really wanted to do their best in this penultimate half term, before they complete their time at primary school.

We are also beginning to make preparations to begin rehearsals for our end of year production which we hope parents and carers will be able to attend. There will be lots to do after the holidays so don't be surprised if you hear lots of singing of the songs at home.

Transition to secondary school plans are also beginning to take place and I met (virtually) with staff from Guiseley School this week. I will be meeting with staff from Benton Park after the half-term holidays.

To complete the week, The Make the Rules Day today caused great excitement; the children certainly enjoyed the change to their normal routine.

Enjoy the half-term holidays!

Weekly Update 21.5.21

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog 2020/2021

Hi Maple Tree Class,

We have been working on our independent writing skills this week by completing Darwin's Dragons chapter summaries and revisiting a previous diary writing genre, in the role of Charles Darwin. The children have been focussing on using great vocabulary whilst improving their writing stamina ahead of secondary school.

In maths, we have been developing our understanding of statistics by reading and interpreting line graphs and drawing graphs. This was quite challenging but everyone worked hard and made good progress.

We will be completing a few assessment activities next week before looking forward to the half-term holidays. Fingers crossed the weather improves!

Have a great weekend

Mrs Trotter

Weekly Update 14.5.21

Mrs Trotter (l.trotter) on: Maple Tree Class Blog 2020/2021

Hi everyone,

Another busy week in Maple Tree Class. Our amazing persuasive Galapagos tourism leaflets have been completed and look great! Everyone took great pride in the content and presentation of their work (see below). We have also used our class novel to expand our vocabulary and have then used these words when retelling different chapters of the book.

In maths, we have completed our geometry focus by solving some very complex problems and will be moving on to understanding statistics next week. It was also great to see how pleased the children are with their written arithmetic test scores. There were lots of smiles in class. Keep up the great work!

It was exciting when we began to think about our end of year production and listened to a few of the songs. Watch this space...

Have a great weekend!

Mrs Trotter
