Weekly Update 15.11.24

Hello,
UKS2 began the week with a communal act of remembrance. We visited Yeadon Town Hall to see the commemorative plaques of the fallen soldiers in World War Two. The children were allocated a name of one of the soldiers and then completed some research to find out more about them. Each child then painted a pebble with the soldiers name; these are now displayed in the foyer of school. Our history lesson this week was about the Battle of Britain which further consolidated how important the act of remembrance is.
In English, the children continued their research on the roles of women in World War Two. It was another opportunity to share roles that family members had in the war. I was able to share that my grandmother had worked in a munitions factory and my great aunt was in the WRENS. We are all really enjoying this topic!
Next week, the UKS2 Living Museum will take place on Wednesday afternoon. This is an opportunity to share the family stories and memorabilia that children have. We are looking forward to welcoming parents/carers to visit this from 3:20-3:50 after school on that day.
It was great to see another member of Maple Tree Class completing one of the wartime recipes. Well done Felicity! The cake looks great!
Another busy week comes to an end.
Happy weekend!
