Hi,
We made it! We have had a very busy end to the term this week but have had lots of fun celebrating too.
We spent a lot of time learning a new skill - sewing! We then made some beautiful cross-stitch calendars. We also had fun making our Christmas cards this week.
The highlight of our week was our Christmas party! We had so much fun playing games in the classroom and in the hall.
All children in KS2 also received a book from school as a small Christmas gift and we hope they will enjoy reading their new book over the holidays.
Here are a few examples of our beautiful cards and calendars!
Merry Christmas! I hope you all have a wonderful break and look forward to seeing you in January!

Hi,
This week in Ash Tree we have completed some assessments to see how much we have learnt this term and also begun our Christmas craft activities! The children have all made so much progress this term and should be very proud of their efforts this week.
In P.E we ran lengths of the MUGA to try and make up some steps for the Rufford Races to Lapland challenge. Remember you have until this Sunday (13th) to log your steps and help us reach our total!
Finally, on Friday we enjoyed wearing our Christmas jumpers. Look how great we looked!
One more week! We can do it!

Hi!
This week in English we have been finishing our letters to persuade Leeds City Council not to close the sailing centre at Yeadon Tarn. We have also designed some persuasive posters which we are hoping to display around Yeadon in local shops and businesses to make more people aware of the plans. Here is one of our posters designed by Ella and Evie.
In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been learning to use the bus stop method to divide up to 4 digit numbers by 1 digit. We have made great progress and moved on to dividing numbers with remainders. Mr Smith and Mrs Trotter's groups have been adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators and then moved on to adding and subtracting mixed numbers too.
Ash Tree's highlight of the week was beginning to design their model helicopters in science with Mr Smith. This is a project they will be working on for the next few weeks so make sure to check back for pictures of the finished products!

Hi,
This week in Ash Tree we have been very cross! We found out that Leeds City Council want to close down Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre (LSAC) which is located at the Tarn. Year 6's from Rufford Park always visit LSAC in the summer term before they move on to secondary as a final class treat. We are very disappointed because if the centre closes we won't get the chance to experience the fun activities they offer!
As a result, in English, we have been planning to write persuasive letters to Leeds City Council and our local MP to fight against the closure. Once our letters are finished next week we will post some on the blog so watch this space!
The following link takes you to a survey about the potential closure if you would like to give your views: https://active.leeds.gov.uk/home/consultation.
In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been learning to multiply by 10, 100 and 100 and Mr Smith and Mrs Trotter's groups have been adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators.
This week, the class helped to write this blog post and want to share their highlight of the week which was learning to play handball in P.E!

We have had another busy week in Ash Tree Class!
In English, we have been completing our final drafts of our character descriptions based on "The Piano". It has been great to see the children using new vocabulary and writing some super complex sentences. There has also been a vast improvement in handwriting so I am looking forward to handing out some more pen licences on Monday!
In Maths, Mrs Trotter and Mr Smith's groups have continued to work on fractions whilst my group have been working hard to use the formal method for long multiplication accurately! The children realised this method was much easier if they were confident with their recall of times tables so please continue to practise times tables at home if you need to. Some children progressed to playing a very competitive, long multiplication game of "three in a row" too!
We finished the week with a food tasting DT lesson this afternoon. We have been learning about seasonal produce and linked this to rationing within our WW2 topic. Today, we decided which high sugar vegetables we will be using as a sugar substitute in our rationed baking recipes later in the term! Some children discovered a new favourite vegetable they had never tried before whilst others weren't so keen!
