Hello!
We have had another full week in Pear Tree.
In English we have written thank you letters to Mama Panya for inviting us to her delicious pancake party. The children have really enjoyed this text and using their imaginations to describe life in rural Kenya.
In Maths we have been consolidating 2D and 3D shapes. We have been looking at the properties and grouping shapes based on the properties.
In Science we have been identifying different deciduous trees and had a go at identify trees based on their leaves. The children also had a go at making leaf rubbings.
This week we finished off our pieces of art work for the ALPT Art Exhibition which is all about nursery rhymes this year. We have chosen to base our piece on ‘Ladybird Ladybird’. This work will be displayed in a few weeks time at St Oswald's Church - more details to follow.
Have a lovely weekend.

Hello!
The first week back has gone by in a flash.
The highlight of our week really has to be Sports Day. All the children should be immensely proud of their efforts during their races! Everyone showed fantastic determination and super team work. Thank you to everyone who came down and cheered the children on. Yellow House were the winning team in KS1 and overall :)
In Maths we have been partitioning numbers up to 100. We have also been comparing numbers using the greater than, less than and equal to symbols (>,<, =). As a treat for their hard work we watched an episode of Numberblocks which explains the symbols: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0blsqtz/numberblocks-series-3-blockzilla
Have a lovely weekend.

Hello!
Another half term has come to an end in a flash...
In English we have created a new version of our focus text. We have changed the story to 'Lila and the Secret of Sun'. In Lila's village it has rained for weeks and weeks. The only way to stop it is to climb up the tallest mountain and tell the sky something happy. Using this new version, the children wrote another recount as Lila.
Year 1 have all chosen their races for Sports Day which is taking place on Wednesday 3rd June. The children are very excited and we hope to see lots of parents there.
Reminder: We have our class photos on Tuesday 2nd June and this year they are being taken outside!
Have a lovely week and I look forward to seeing you all in Summer 2 :)

Hello!
It has been a lovely busy week in Pear Tree.
In English we have started writing a recount as Lila from our focus text ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’. I have been very impressed with everyone's work so far!
In PSHE we discussed the importance of good tooth health and why it is so important to look after our teeth. We came up with our top 5 tips for looking after our teeth:
- Brush your teeth in the morning and night
- Use toothpaste
- Brush for 2 minutes (listen to this song to help you - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCio_xVlgQ0&list=RDwCio_xVlgQ0&start_radio=1)
- Try not to have lots of sugary food or drinks
- Visit the dentist 2 times a year (it is free for children under 18)
In Art we looked at the sculptor Eva Rothschild. The children had a go at creating a sculpture inspired by her work using marshmallows and spaghetti.
Have a lovely weekend.

Hello!
Another short week has flown by in Pear Tree.
In English we have started our new focus text 'Lila and the Secret of Rain'. The children have been writing predictions about the story based on pictures from the book and writing thought bubbles as the villagers who are facing a drought.
For our third lesson in our 'Let's Sculpt' Art topic we learnt about the sculptor Barbara Hepworth. The children worked in groups to create their own human sculpture which then made an abstract family inspired by Barbara Hepworth's work.
In Topic we looked at the 54 countries in Africa. The children enjoyed copying this song which listed (almost all) the countries in Africa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0F2PiVP_FI&list=RDG0F2PiVP_FI&start_radio=1 The children then worked in pairs to label 6 countries (Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Madagascar, South Africa & Nigeria) on their own map of Africa using atlases as support.
Have a lovely weekend.
