Rufford Park Primary School and Nursery

World Book Day is on Thursday, March 5th, 2026. It is an annual celebration of authors, illustrators, books, and the joy of reading, an event that we always like to mark at Rufford Park.

Over the past few years, we have celebrated World Book Day with various themes. This year, we have decided to have a dress-up day.

We are encouraging the children to come dressed as their favourite book character. They can go all out with a full costume or keep it simple with a mask or props related to their character. We know how much the children enjoy non-uniform days, and this gives them the opportunity to be creative and explore the wide range of book characters available.

We kindly ask the children to bring the book featuring the character they have chosen to school on World Book Day to share with others. Sharing recommendations with each other often leads us to discover new authors and books, expanding our reading horizons.

In addition, we will be running a competition where the children can create their favourite book character on a wooden spoon. The children should design and decorate their spoons at home and bring them into school on World Book Day (Thursday 5^th March). There will be a prize for the winner from each class!
