Weekly Update - 7.5.21

Miss Johansson (L.Johansson) on: Oak Tree Class Blog 2020-2021

Hello,

Another busy week in Oak Tree! In English, the children have loved publishing their persuasive writing, and I'll be able to share what these look like in next week's blog - keep an eye out! In Maths, we have been looking further into the relationships between decimal numbers, percentages and fractions. We've also spent some time consolidating our knowledge of multiplying and dividing decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1000!

In P.E, the children have incorporated different athletic activities into one and have been creating their own sporting events.

Next week, it is Mental Health Awareness week. Click here to find out about some wonderful activities your child can take part in at home.

Have a great weekend and please stay safe.

Hi there,

There's been lots going on in Oak Tree this week. The children have really enjoyed writing more of their Galapagos Islands travel leaflets, and in maths, they've been adding and subtracting tricky decimal numbers!

It has been great to begin our wonderful new guided reading novel, 'Darwin's Dragons'; the children are already finding lots of links between the novel and other work we are doing!

Despite the technical glitches I faced, Parents' Evening was a success and it was great to speak with you all and share the wonderful progress being made in Oak Tree!

Have a good long weekend! Stay safe :)

Hello,

It's been a busy first week of the summer term, and wonderful to welcome the children back after the Easter break.

We've been identifying persuasive writing devices, in English, which has fed into our Galapagos Islands travel leaflet writing. The children have really enjoyed learning all about these beautiful islands and making links to Charles Darwin and David Attenborough!

In maths, we have been focussing on decimals and the relationship decimals have with fractions and percentages.

We began our new topic this week too, 'Scientists and Inventors'. The children are looking forward to finding out about more influential people and how they link to our science evolution focus!

Have a great weekend and I look forward to meeting (virtually) with you next week for Parents' Evening!

Thanks,

Miss Johansson

Hello,

Well, that's the spring term done and dusted! Time really flies when  you're having fun - click here to see some end of spring term fun! It's been so lovely having all of the children back the last few weeks and I'm really looking forward to a productive and happy summer term with Oak Tree.

This week, the children have completed their final spring term (writing) assessments, which they have worked really hard on. They've been looking at some tricky decimal and fraction work in maths, converting between the two and understanding the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages. In Science, the children have carried out a full investigation, looking into helpful and harmful microorganisms. Click here to see their aims, predictions, methods and results!

I hope you have a super Easter break.

Stay safe,

Miss Johansson

**ART EXHIBITION**

At Rufford Park we have signed up to a very exciting online art exhibition this year called the Young Artists’ Summer Show which is run by the Royal Academy of Arts. We would like as many of you as possible to get involved and submit your work!

The Young Artists' Summer Show love seeing your personality, imagination, thoughts and feelings shine through your artwork. They believe art is about expressing yourself in a way that comes naturally to you. There are no rules, your submission can be created using any art materials you like. You could paint, sketch or even sculpt!

If you're thinking about creating something for the exhibition but aren't sure how to get started, why not set aside some time this half-term to get your creative juices flowing? All great art starts somewhere! For more information about the exhibition and ideas about how to get started please visit https://www.ruffordparkprimary.org.uk/information/curriculum/art-dt/royal-academy-of-arts-young-artists-summer-show

Submissions are open until 26 April 2021.

Hi all,

I hope you are well and have had a good week.

Oak Tree have been working extremely hard this week during their Spring term assessments - I'm really proud of how well they've got on with completing them, showing resilience and perseverance whilst doing so.

They've also had lots of fun learning more about the ancient Maya in Topic and have done some research in Computing on a specific Maya area. In P.E, we've had fun completing some activities for Yorkshire Schools Games Week. The children worked really hard to achieve their Bronze Award in Skipping for Boxing. Some even managed their Silver and Gold. Click here to see some children demonstrating each award.

We look forward to our final week of the spring term, next week.

Best wishes,

Miss Johansson
