Weekly Update 16.10.26

We have had a week filled with Halloween activities and fun.

On Monday afternoon the children enjoyed the Halloween disco and showcased their best dance moves!

In phonics we have focused on identifying the initial sound in words. In maths we have continued our work on creating a routine. We spoke about what we do before and after school and the children enjoyed putting these activities in order.

We have also sung lots of nursery rhymes using numbers to 5.

I hope you all have a wonderful half term and I'll see you again on Monday 2nd November.

Weekly Update 16.10.26

This week we have been learning how to identify signs of autumn! On Wednesday afternoon we enjoyed an autumnal walk around the school grounds and the children enjoyed seeing all the beautiful coloured leaves. We tried to be extra quiet to see if we could spot some squirrels collecting food. The children walked so sensibly around the school grounds and I was very impressed with their listening skills.

In maths we have enjoyed identifying repeated phrases in songs and stories. We have read 'The Gingerbread Man' and sung 'Old MacDonald' and '5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer' many times. This will help us learn how to continue repeated patterns later in the year.

We have continued learning about how to look after our body and have learnt why we need to wash our hands. We covered our hands with 'germs' (glitter) and then played with some toys to see how easily germs can be spread. We then washed our hands with soap and water to make them clean again. We also completed an activity to see how soap can protect us from germs - a video of the experiemtn can be found here, if you'd like to complete it at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoQj2qJrlWo.

Have a great weekend and I'll see you again on Monday.

Weekly Update 9.10.26

We have continued learning all about our bodies this week. The children have enjoyed playing in our doctor's surgery role play and there have been lots of appointments and diagnoses! We have also been learning about different senses. We have explored the scent of different herbs at the play doh table, played I-Spy and have explored our sense of touch by trying to work out what's hiding in a feely bag.

On Wednesday morning we all went to the hall to have a lesson with a teacher from a local dance school. The children hugely enjoyed this and this will become a regular Wednesday morning activity for the foreseeable future.

In maths we have begun learning about repeating patterns and have been reading lots of stories with repeated phrases.

Have a great weekend and I'll see you again on Monday.

Weekly Update 2.10.26

This week we have been learning about how to look after our bodies, especially our teeth. The role play area has turned into a fruit and veg shop. The children have enjoyed using the toothbrushes to clean the pretend dirty teeth.

We read the story 'Bear Hunt' by Anthony Browne and the children enjoyed using their own 'magic crayons' to draw some pictures.

We have continued exploring different shapes as part of maths and have been building lots of different things in the construction area.

On Wednesday morning we visited the hall and played some games with the parachute. I am very impressed with how happy and settled everyone seems and we have already made great progress since a few weeks ago!

Have a great weekend and I'll see you again on Monday.

Weekly Update 25.9.26

We have had another week filled with playing and learning.

In maths we have been learning to explore different shapes. The children have enjoyed building stable towers by identifying shapes with flat faces. We also read 'Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy which inspired us to build our own rocket. We enjoyed drawing and sticking different shapes onto the rocket to represent the doors and windows.

We have continued learning about families this week. We looked at photos of each others families and the children enjoyed talking about who was in their family.

The warm, sunny weather has meant that we have spent lots of time outdoors and the children have enjoyed watering the plants and also engaging in lots of imaginative play.

Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you again on Monday,

Miss Atkinson

Weekly Update 18.9.26

Another busy week full of learning has come to an end.

This week we have looked at emotions. The children enjoyed using the mirrors to explore different facial expressions and we spoke about different scenarios that we would feel these emotions. We also thought about this when creating our self-portraits.

On Monday we learnt the word 'bramble'. We listened to an explanation of what a bramble is, tasted juicy blackberries and drew our own bramble bush.

On a rainy Thursday morning we went to the hall for the first time this academic year. We played 'follow the leader' which involved moving in different ways. We then sang 'The Farmer's in his Den'.

We have also continued learning to compare groups of objects using our key words 'more' and 'fewer'.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Atkinson

Weekly Update 11.9.26

What an eventful second week back at school!

The children have well and truly settled into the new routines and are very happy and settled in our classroom. In phonics the children have been developing their phonological awareness (ability to discriminate different sounds). We have explored different musical instruments and also experimented with making different noises with our voices.

In maths we have focused on comparing amounts of objects, using our key words 'lots', 'more' and 'fewer'.

We have played outside every day and have loved exploring our new classroom environment. Elsewhere in the curriculum we have also looked at the story 'Things I Like' by Anthony Browne and used this to discuss the things that we all enjoy. We are also beginning to name different emotions and will look more at this next week.

Enjoy the weekend,

Miss Atkinson

Weekly Update 4.9.26

We have had a great start to our year in nursery. The children have all enjoyed themselves and have started becoming more familiar with our routines. Everyone should have had an update on Tapestry with photos of your child's first day. If you need any help with Tapestry then contact the office.

Enjoy your weekend,

The Nursery Team
