Romeo and Juliet
Carriageworks Theatre, October 2015
Our Year 5/6 Drama Club put on a 'phenomenal' production of Romeo & Juliet at the Carriageworks Theatre, Millennium Square! They gave it their all in front of a sold-out crowd of over 300 parents and paying members of the public, as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival 2015.
Elvi Piper, formerly of the Royal Shakespeare Company and now Creative Education Officer at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, told us she was “blown away by the incredible and inspiring performance skills, energy, commitment and creativity of Rufford Park's students and staff.
“Every performer's lines were perfectly delivered with clarity and brilliant projection.
I couldn't possibly choose any stand-out performances, because they were all of the highest quality! And the costumes [designed by Mrs Stephenson] not only looked beautiful but really supported the storytelling and the crafted world of the play. The
young cast had obviously thoroughly enjoyed the process of staging this wonderful production, and that enjoyment spread quickly to the excited audience.
“What a phenomenal production, one of my absolute favourite re-tellings of such an iconic tale!”
Well done to everyone involved... roll on 2016!
