Weekly Update - 19.12.25

Hello,

What a busy final week to a very, very looooooong Autumn term! We have officially completed the longest term of the academic year and with an 8 and a 7 week half term behind us I think we are all ready for a rest and reset! The children have worked incredibly hard this term and were able to showcase some of their hard work this week with you during their "Very Victorian Christmas" assembly.

We had lots of fun this week completing our "make" section of this term's DT after lots of careful planning and designing. We worked in groups to create some fantastic marble runs and had great fun testing them all out to see which one had the longest run. We awarded points for run time, aesthetics, smoothness of journey and imaginative use of materials.

We also made some beautiful Victorian inspired pin prick Christmas cards this week. We found out that the Victorians were the first to send Christmas cards as we know them now but they were very expensive for ordinary folk, so people often made their own lace effect pin prick cards at home which is exactly what we did!

On top of all of this, we also had UKS2 class parties on Monday afternoon. The children requested a quiet film room in one classroom and board games in another. Their behaviour was excellent and they very much enjoyed the "picky bits" food throughout the afternoon so thank you very much for your donations which enabled us to buy this!

And finally, we would like to say thank you for all the kind gifts we have received. We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the festive season and will see you in the new year!

Miss Bairstow :)

Hello,

Another very busy week as we come to the end of the half term!

This week we have had assessment week in Year 6 and the children have worked incredibly hard.

We have also been busy prepping for our Christmas performance next week "A Very Victorian Christmas". A text was sent out yesterday as a reminder for children to come to school on Wednesday next week dressed in their Victorian costumes from Armley Mills.

It is also the UKS2 class parties on Monday afternoon so children can come to school in partywear. Please ensure this is appropriate for school e.g. suitable footwear for going outdoors in at break and lunch and no crop tops (it is December after all! Brrrrrr!).

It was also Christmas jumper and Christmas dinner day today in school so we are well and truly in the festive spirit now!

Have a lovely weekend... one more week to go!

Miss Bairstow :)

Hello,

In English this week we continued writing our biographies about Dr Thomas Barnardo.

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been multiplying fractions by integers and fractions and Mrs Trotter's group have been converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa.

The choir have been out this week and are again next week and the UKS2 football team have a fixture again tonight. Lots of things going on and lots of children representing school in different ways once again!

Have a lovely weekend :)

Hi,

In English this week we did some more work on features of a biography and started writing our introductions about Dr Thomas Barnardo.

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been adding and subtracting mixed numbers and Mrs Trotter's group have been looking at equivalent fractions.

In topic, we learnt about Victorian punishments (we are very grateful after that lesson that we live in 2025!).

In PSHE, we discussed the importance of tolerance and respect.

Have fun at the Christmas Fayre tomorrow - sadly I can't make it but I am hoping I win a raffle prize!

Have a lovely weekend :)

Hello,

A shorter week this week to make room for our training day tomorrow.

In English, we have been researching Dr Thomas Barnardo and starting to write biographies.

In maths, Miss Bairstow's group have been adding and subtracting fractions and Mrs Trotter's group have finished multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 and have also moved onto fractions.

In topic, following on from our amazing "jigsaw" work on child labour in the Victorian era, we learnt about the inspirational people who helped change children's lives. See the images below to have a look at our "jigsaw" posters we created in our lessons before and after half term (unfortunately I forgot to take the pictures before they were on the wall!).

Have a great long weekend!

Miss Bairstow :)
