Hi,
A focus on arithmetic skills in my maths group this week. Short division has been mastered. A secure times table knowledge is essential for this an so many aspects of maths. Children need to continue to practice the times tables to ensure a quick recall. We return to fractions work next week where these quick recall skills are required.
In English, the children have been using bullet points and brackets for additional information in their non-chronological report writing which will be ready to publish next week.
Our Geography lesson was on identifying features of Yorkshire and the Humber. The children enjoyed using atlases to find some of these features.
We also spent time creating a piece of art work on the theme of the Bridging Generations. This work will be displayed in school, to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day (27th January) – we also enjoyed seeing this event mentioned on the BBC’s Newsround programme. We were really touched by the sensitive and mature approach the children had towards this subject.
The half-term is whizzing by...
Enjoy the weekend

Hi,
A very productive week in Ash Tree Class.
The children identified features of a non-chronological report and started writing their reports on Leeds. My maths group has been working hard on short division and made great progress.
On Friday morning, we welcomed our local MP, Katie White into school. She met with the school council who had lots of questions to ask her.
Finally, on Friday afternoon we welcomed MindMate back into the classroom to deliver a PSHE workshop.
Other highlights include a group of children representing the school at the Leeds Indoor Athletics Finals on Tuesday afternoon. Sadly after winning our first heat we didn't win this event but all the children had fun and represented the school brilliantly.
For the Year 6 parents I have included the link for the new Peat Rigg video
Have a great weekend

Hello,
UKS2 enjoyed a great start to the week with our topic launch day.
The children moved around the classes and were taught by all the UKS2 teachers. They learned about the geography of Leeds and researched a twin town of Leeds and about the features of mountains and rivers. The children also enjoyed using different art materials to begin our unit on landscapes. It was a super way to start our geography topic and we are now busy planning a non-chronological report on Leeds and a twinned city.
On Wednesday, we had a meeting about the Year 6 residential trip to Peat Rigg. For those parents/carers who were unable to attend, information will be sent home. Please do not hesitate to contact if you have any questions or queries. Link to Peat Rigg website is also included here Peat Rigg Website .
Have a great weekend!

Happy New Year!
Ash Tree Class have made a great start to the spring term and are looking forward to the Launch Day of our new topic about mountains and rivers on Monday.
The children in Year 5 were very excited to start rehearsals for the Wizard of Oz and the children in Year 6 were equally excited to discuss their forthcoming residential trip. Just a reminder that there is a meeting for parents/carers only on Wednesday 14th January at 3:30pm.
Have a great weekend!

Hi,
What a lovely final week to the term!
UKS2 gave a great performance of 'A Very Victorian Christmas'. The children learned their lines to both the songs and the poem very well and with only two rehearsals with the whole of UKS2!
The DT project of 'Marbellous Structures' was also a particular success this week. It has been lovely to see the children so engaged in a group project. Their teamwork skills have been excellent.
Keeping with the Victorian theme, the children also made traditional Victorian Christmas cards.
We have also held the auditions for Wizard of Oz and most of the speaking parts have been handed out now – but there will be some additional parts given out next term, I am sure. It’s always difficult to give out parts for a show, as some children will obviously be disappointed that they haven’t been given a main role/the role they wanted – but I do hope you can encourage your child (if they feel downhearted) and say that the whole experience will be a lot of fun! Every part is important in this show...Work will begin on this in January.
Thankyou for the kind gifts we have received. We wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
