Weekly Update 15.12.23

Posted: Dec 15, 2023 by: Miss Bairstow (d.bairstow) on: Ash Tree Class Blog

Hello,

Just a few quick reminders to get started! The UKS2 Christmas Assembly "A Very Victorian Christmas" is taking place on Tuesday morning at 9.30. Please could children wear the clothes they wore for the Armley Mills Trip for our Victorian Christmas performance on Tuesday 19th December.

Boys:  dark trousers (no jeans), white shirt with a collar and a waistcoat if they have one.

Girls:  dark skirt, white top, long socks or dark tights and a pinafore if they have one.  Hair tied back with ribbons or in plaits/ringlets.

Ash Tree have also been sent home with our class verses of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas to practise over the weekend. See below:

With a little old driver so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment he must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:

"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen!

On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;

So up to the housetop the coursers they flew

With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too—

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

ALL UKS2
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

After a long wait (and time to gather lots of cardboard tubes!) Ash Tree finally completed their DT day today to build their final marble run products. They used their bridges and bends from our previous lessons plus a whole heap of new resources to create imaginative and aesthetically pleasing marble runs! We had a great day and the children worked really well in their groups. At the time of writing... we were quite a way away from being finished so photos of the finished products are to follow but here are a few snaps of the groups getting started!

Have a great weekend!

Miss Bairstow :)
