Weekly Update 25.6.21

Posted: Jun 25, 2021 by: Mrs. Cahill (n.cahill) on: Beech Tree Class Blog 2020-21

Hello again,

I hope today's blog finds you all safe and well. Though the week came to a rather abrupt end, the children have been working hard and have been busy again producing lovely work and building on skills.

The children completed their cave paintings using mixed media...

We designed our own Stone Age homes, using materials that would have been readily available during that time period. We also considered the purpose of our home and whether it fit best in the Palaeolithic (early), Mesolithic (middle) or Neolithic (later) Stone Age periods. I was so proud of how the children applied what they had already learned to create authentic designs.

In English, the children began planning and writing their own short story to slot in with our class reader, Stig of the Dump. If your child has missed reading our latest chapter, please follow the link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz24-T68Dg8&ab_channel=MrWilliamson . Beech Tree Class are aiming high in their written work by ensuring they have included a range of sentence starters, conjunctions, ambitious vocabulary and accurate punctuation.

In maths, the children have been working on classifying triangles and quadrilaterals based on their characteristics. We thoroughly enjoyed a game of corners to help with our recognition of equilateral, isosceles, scalene and right-angled triangles!

Our SRE lessons will begin next Wednesday where the girls will be taught by myself (Mrs Cahill) and the boys will be taught by Mr Bentham (Y3/4 teacher and LSK2 lead). If you did not receive a letter, please let me know and I can send one home with your child on Tuesday. If you have any questions, please either email me directly at beech@ruffordparkprimary.org.uk or Miss Johansson (PHSE lead) at her class address oak@ruffordparkprimary.org.uk

I am hugely proud of how the children are working on their class target to be kind - I see evidence every day and we are firmly on our way to our treat! Well done Beech, keep it up!

This week in assembly we have focused on water safety. This will also be the theme of next week's swimming lessons.  Active Leeds have provided some materials for home learning at this time to ensure children have access to potentially life-saving information. Adults, please click this link to access the drowning prevention website. Adults and children, please click the link below for activities to complete at home if you so wish.

Finally, click here for this week's homework reminder and here for the accompanying spelling sheet!

Take care and see you all soon,

Mrs Cahill
