Weekly Update 10/9/21

Posted: Sep 10, 2021 by: Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Welcome to Beech Tree Class - it's lovely to have everyone back in school! The children have settled well into the classroom routines and it is very pleasing to see new friendships forming already.

This week the children created their own self portraits by mirroring the other half of their faces which were photographs. It was a challenging but very enjoyable activity for the class! All the children gave it their best effort, took their time and listened to the instructions given for each step of the drawing and they produced some absolutely lovely pieces of work! These will be displayed in the Y4 cloakroom.

The children also completed a task which revolved around 'The Rights of the Reader' by Daniel Pennac. As a class, we discussed the benefits of reading and how it helps us with our learning. We then read through the different rights of the reader and in pairs the children had to cut them all out, then discuss which they thought were the most important to them and the least important to them and rearrange them in a diamond formation starting from the most important at the top and working down to the least important at the bottom. The children understood that there were no right or wrong answers; these were just their opinions and what they felt were the more/less important to them. Each pair had a totally different order and each pair gave their reasons for the one they chose as the most important to them.
