Weekly Update-28/11/24

Hello everyone,
This week, we have been writing multiple stanzas for our Winter themed poems. The children have been using a range of expanded noun phrases, similes, alliteration and rhyming words within their poems.
In maths, we have been focusing on fluency, reasoning and problem solving for the 7x tables and 11x tables. The children have been working really hard throughout these lessons and are making great progress.
In art, the children have been completing their own self portraits in pen, which have moustaches on them. The moustaches on them relate to the artist that we were looking at this lesson, which was Salvador Dali. The children worked extremely hard on these and produced some lovely pieces.
In science, as part of our unit on States of Matter, the children conducted an experiment to see how different temperatures of water would affect the amount of time it would take for ice to melt. The children worked extremely well in their groups in order to conduct the experiment as accurately and as fairly as possible. When comparing the results from different groups, it was fantastic to see just how close the results were, which demonstrated how accurately they had conducted the experiment.
In computing, we have continued our work on stop motion animation. This week the children were animating different Roman characters onto a background of the colosseum. Understanding what needs to be still, what needs to move and how to make the characters move as fluidly as possible, the children worked in pairs to create their animations after making a basic storyboard with a start, middle and end. They used the onion skinning feature to help them produce the best animations possible. Some children were challenged further by making different body parts move as well e.g an arm with a sword.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou :)
