Weekly Update-7/6/24

Posted: Jun 7, 2024 by: Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello everyone,

This week, in our writing, we have started looking at the discovery of Tutankhamun by Howard Carter. The children have been learning all about the facts surrounding the discovery, then focusing on creating synonyms for the different feelings that Howard Carter would have felt before, during and after the discovery. We have also looked at a WAGOLL diary entry example and the features required within it and we have then focused on creating descriptive sentences based around all the different senses for the moment that Howard Carter entered the tomb. The children have absolutely loved it and are fascinated by Howard Carter, which has led to some super work throughout the week. Well done!

In maths, we have been focusing on time. We have been converting between seconds, minutes and hours and focusing on a range of problems that require two steps to solve. We have also been looking at converting between analogue and digital time and 12 and 24 hour time. This has been challenging for some children, yet they have shown great resilience and made huge improvement in just a few lessons. It's been lovely to see the children being more confident with different aspects of time!

In reading, we have started reading our new class novel called The Cat Mummy by Jaqueline Wilson. the children have analysed the front cover, made predictions about what the story could be about and we have read the first two chapters together, discussing any tricky vocabulary along the way.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou :)
